No plug needed. It just takes a little common sense.

To many people that own and raise beagles are ignorant, immoral, and very deceitful in their dealings. If they weren’t, they would make some type of guaranty when they sell a high quality hound for a fair price.
I was wondering why you posted this,I seen it on Rho and thought maybe you were just looking for conversation...but now that I think about it I think your just an idiot.
can I ask you what you would consider a fair price? not to jump the gun but you'l probably say $350 or $400 right? thats TOOOOOOO darn high for a darn dog. I've never paid over $100 for one and $100 is high.I wouldn't be afraid to put my cheap a$$ "plugs" down with any dog with all those fancy titles either.
"High quality hound for a fair price" Yea that really does make me laugh my ass off.If you thought you had a "high quality hound" I can bet you wouldn't sell for a fair price,All you would see is dollar signs, not a dog.
and I make all these asumptions from seeing you write stuff on the net, thats sad,I don't even know you in person.but I sure know the type!
oh and just for the record, that post you made about "most beagle owners" really pissed me off.

Maybe there are too many beaglers who can't express what they mean because they don't know the difference between to, too, and two; there, their, and they're; your and you're? Maybe it's just typos but it still leads to confusion, misunderstanding and sometimes an angry resposnse. ;)

I am probably way over my head here on this post because I think from the beginning its something personal...however, I happen to agree that 100.00 for a puppy is way too low. You cannot even begin to raise a litter and do right by it and sell puppies for that much. Even if you use your own bitch and stud you still have expenses and your time.. I feel MY time is worth something. I haven't sold a puppy for less than 500.00 in many years and I realize that show prices and field prices are way different but, c'mon.. 300.00 is fair and reasonable for someone who is taking the time to breed decent dogs and vet them properly.

Next, as far as genetic problems none of us have crystal balls. There are some things that would make me spay or neuter a dog. Auto immune disease, Bad hips, thyroid disorder etc.. but, simple things like cherry eye, umbilical hernias a slightly bad bite and things that do not affect longevity are things I would assess on a dog by dog basis. We cannot throw the baby out with the bath water and continue to have any genetic diversity in our hounds.

My thoughts,

Read it again, Leah. $100 is his limit for a good, trained dog ready to hunt, not a puppy. So he could get a pack of 5 for what one of your pups cost.

I owned two males in the '70's, both heavy linebred Pearson Creek, out of successful brace trial hounds. One was sterile, the other was as bench-legged as a basset hound. Both had unbelievable noses but not much else. I was just a kid myself and loved those hounds better than life, but looking back I see that both were victims of too much of what trialers in the late 60's and early 70's considered a good thing. My son asked me why he had to study history in school, and my explanation went along the lines of Hitler and Hussein, and repeating mistakes. We have the history of those trialers from 30 + years ago, so we don't need to make the same mistakes. Would you breed a nice female to the star of Underdog? Bench-legged as all get out.
