YOU MAKE THE CALL

Post by danny vansickle »

YOU ARE JUDGING THE FINALS OF THE WORLD HUNT,TWO DOGS,BLUE AND GREEN,THE HANDLER OF THE BLUE DOG INFORMED YOU AND THE OTHER HANDLER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CAST THAT THE BLUE DOG SOMTIMES HAPPY CHIRPS,OR BARKS OFF THE LEAD.

WHEN GOIN TO CAST THE DOGS,YOU JUMP A RABBIT,BOTH HANDLERS AGREE TO TURN LOOSE ON IT,THE RABBIT RUNS 56 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS,EACH DOG HAS 6 CHECKS AND ARE TIED 150 TO 150,NOW,KEEP IN MIND,YOU HAVE JUST HEARD BOTH DOGS TRUE MOUTHS FOR ALMOST AN HOUR,YOU CUT LOOSE WITH 3 1/2 MINUTES TO GO,BLUE DOG HAPPY SQUEEKS OR CHIRPS OFF THE LEAD 5 TIMES,A BARK TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HE HAS USED FOR THE ENTIRE CAST,BLUES HANDLER EVEN INFORMS YOU THAT IT IS NOT HIS ACCTUAL BARK,AND RIGHT ABOUT THE SAME TIME,THE GREEN DOG LETS OUT 3 BARKS ON A HOT TRACK,RABBIT IS PRODUCED WITH NO JUMP,THE DOGS RUN OUT THE CLOCK,NO BREAKDOWN.

SO,YOU HAVE TO AWARD THE DECIDING 10 POINTS TO ONE OF THE DOGS,WHO GETS IT?

BLUE DOG THAT LET OUT WHAT YOU COULD TELL WAS A HAPPY CHIRP AS DESCRIBED BY THE HANDLER AT THE BEGINING OF THE CAST.

OR GREEN??????????

HAVE FUN FELLAS

Explain a lttle more about rabbit produced with no jumps. Judge could not tell which hound produced because both were side by side, or the judge jumped the rabbit, or what? Might make a difference with another small detail.

by no jump,i mean that the green dog hit in the middle of a line and worked it out, both dogs honor it and establish a line, not side by side, but, blue dog clearly was not coldtrailing by no means, when the clip on the lead snapped,he chirps 5 times, and you can tell a huge difference from the chirp as compared to his acctual bark, then the green dog hits three barks with the same mouth it used while running.

blue was clearly happy whining,chirping,whatever

green was barking a full bark nose down on the line and goes with it.

Or scratch it for running off game !!!

If a handler explains the dogs mouth and the judge agrees not to put it on the clock for wimpering then he can not strike the blue collar ,positive strike green ...

All I can say is you have to be consistant in your judging.. I would have struck in the first dog to whimper but thats me... But if I was judging and someone told me that my dog gives happy chirps off the lead then I would be consistant with that call throughout the cast... Thats why when I judge I say (Guys if your dog gives ANY kind of mouth I don't care if it's a chip, bark, or a whimper it will be on the clock after 3 times regarless) that way if that does happen there is no arguement so the happy dog would have got the strike and in that case would have won but in the next round sounds like he would have minused out... There are 3 different post on here for the same question....

My answer is get a dig that doesn't open til he smells the rabbit...

Like the other guy said, geta dog that doesn't get happy off the lead, or bust his arse till he ain't so happy anymore.

I've seen a happy chirp cured 2 ways...

1.) Use a rope about two times the size of a normal lead.. Put one end through the collar ring and pull the two ends together(like doubleing the rope). When time to release the hound let go of one end. As the hound starts to run off, the rpoe is still dragging through his collar for about 10-12 feet. It distracts them just enough to sometimes eliminate the chirp.. It works..

2.) Carry the hound.Don't use the lead to release him. Wait about 5-10 seconds after the others are released and set him on the ground in the opposite direction. This also works..
