Big Day Saturday With PICTURES!

Post by Tony Jr »

Well we headed back to one of our good spots today. 1800 acres of rabbit paradise! We started off a little slow but things picked up after about an hour. The dogs did their usual jam up job. I have two beagles that will retrieve a rabbit. A buddy saw the rabbit cross the ditch/creek and shot it on the other side. He was trying to figure out where to cross. The pack ran and crossed the ditch and keep running to where he shot. Princess picked up the dead rabbit and came back and swam the ditch with it and brought it to my feet and set it down! :D  Fellas, y'all gotta understand the when she does that, this fat man's chest sticks out like a proud papa! Princess is one of two original dogs/Puppies I bought back when I got back into rabbit hunting/beagling. I trained her and remember when she opened on her first rabbit. She will be with me until she passed to the great rabbit running paradise in the sky!!!!! We had 6 guns and finished up around 3pm with 46 rabbits. We missed about the same amount. My hunting crew was TERRIBLE SHOTS TODAY!! I cussed a few and threatened not to bring them back LOL!! I have to admit, my shooting performance wasn't that great either though!

Here's some pictures!

Here's one of the redneck hunting crew.

This is my right hand rabbit hunting man here. Mike uses a 410 and he puts us to shame! We call him "The One Shot Wonder". That's all it takes, one shot!!!! This was Mike's 8 rabbit and his first time in 10 years to limit out! I was proud for him!!!

Good luck to everyone this weekend and especially those that it's the last weekend!

Yeap, thats 5.75 rabitts per hour in a eight hour hunt, which equals about a rabbit every ten minutes. Good hunt and lots of rabbit stew to come.

WOW I'm envious. There aren't many rabbits in our part. Must have been a wonderful day. For excitment here, took a recently run over rabbit home, tied a string around it and drug it through the yard. Then I let the babies out. My oldest and youngest were on the track but didn't bark. My middle girl was on it and sang her heart out. (I have no idea what I am doing in training her, but I read in one of the forums to use a dead rabbit). It was music to my ears. Loretta Lynn has nothing on this girl. I wasn't sure if they knew what a rabbit was. I know they have jumped a deer a couple of times but they do come back after a bit. When I get the Tri-Tronics they will come back quicker  They are also familiar witrh skunks and racoons. Just want to say how much enjoyment I get from the videos. The music of the hounds is so sweet. Have to open the videos and pictures on the puter at home, the dumb thing is dial up so it takes forever but is worth it. The beast at work blocks everything. At least I can get to you all during the day and read the stuff. Can't wait to get home tonight and look at the pictures.

You don't have a clue what your talk'n about! :loser:

We don't allow ANY JUMP SHOOTING, PERIOD! That's our big no-no! Apparently some know nothing about us and have never hunted with us! When the dogs run a rabbit we surround the area. Often times we'll kill 2 or 3 rabbits that we thought the dogs were running and in fact these will be what we call slip outs (Those are rabbits the dogs bump out will running the one rabbit thru the area that these other rabbits are in). We had a time or two were 3 or 4 rabbits came out of the ticket and we killed them thinking that was the rabbit the dogs were on and in fact it wasn't. It's not uncommon to kill 3 or so rabbits on one race. So before some on here what to start trying to judge someone you might want to get all your x's and o's straight!

Thanks to all that posted positive things. We're pretty open about letting new folks hunt with us. We typically hunt in groups of 6 to 8 hunters in our party. Sometimes it just me and another hunter. I'm ticky about who I run my dogs with and may just quite running with anyone elses dogs period.

You been drink'n? READ THE ORIGINAL POST! We killed 46 rabbits in around 7 1/2 hours or so.  :coffee: :moon:

Killing 3 or 4 bump out/slipping out rabbits on one run before killing the rabbit that's being ran equals around 4 to 5 rabbits per race. Race last anywhere from 20 minutes to 40 minutes depending on the rabbit and how quickly they circle or if we can get down the ditch to where they're going. So let's do our math here: 4 or 5 rabbits for an average 30 minute race equals about 8 to 10 rabbits an hour. Don't know about some's math but one could kill 70 plus rabbits in that time if they could hit everything that came out. For us to kill 46 isn't mathematically unusual and requires no jump shooting. It's all about location, location, location. You don't have to jump shoot to kill this many rabbits.

Your math is fine Bill. Looks like overkill to me.
