My three year old DFJ female bluw a disk in her back and now her back legs dont work i took her to the vet and they gave me some medicine for her. I was wandering if any body has had this happen to one of there dogs before and did they ever recover fully. Any information would be very helpfull.

I haven't ever had this happen to me, but I have 2 friends that have. One dog recovered and was able to go again and the other one didn't.

I have a friend in New York that had this happen to one of his females. She was able to recover to the point of walking, but was never able to run in a pack. She did go on to raise a couple of litters without any problem. Hopefully yours will make a full recovery.

What's up Emery? We need to start looking for a good meeting spot for an early season hunt. Give me a call when you get a chance.

I had this to happen to a young male while running last spring in Indiana.. I didn't ever think he would recover fully but after about 4-5 months he gradually was able to go again. He is running pretty well now.. I would have gave up on him but my dad kept telling me to be patient.

give the dog time to heal up. had a male that had similar problems once. gave him prednisone for 30 days and laid him up for a long time. he made it back just fine. if she has trouble urinating you can use a towel and lift her off her hind legs by placing it under her belly sort of. the vet can show you i'm sure. these types of injuries depend on the severity and heal time will vary. be patient and even if she starts getting around good dont run her for 2 months after that. you probably have six months of down time coming your way. dont forget to keep her by herself in the kennel too.goodluck!

I had a dachshund blow a disk and had no rear leg movement. I had to lay her up in a pet carrier for 30 days with drugs. She never fully recovered but she was a pet not hunting dog so she still enjoyed a full life making it to 17 years old. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Take care and be patient,
Hunter
