I was sitting at our kitchen counter one morning and the radio was playing some oldies. They were playing the song "Summertime Blues" and I substituted the name Summertime Blues with Cottontail Blues. A lot of folks thought it meant we had blueticks, but it really means when we cut a pack of our dogs loose they give those cottontails 'Da Blues!' (lol)

When I named the dog in the pic on my posts, I used a couple of things. Wildwood is the name of the street I live on and Dex is short for the name of the town I live in. There is a dog with Uncle in his name about 4 generations back... So, Wildwood Uncle Dex is what he got for a name. My female already had her name when I bought her, so I left it at that.

I usually prefix all my dogs name with the kennel name of "East Ridge", this is a mountain top where I used to run my dogs a lot back when I was growing up, I have moved from that area since then but I still use the name.

I chose Drive-On for my kennel name, I use it for the pre-fix on pups that I am the breeder of. I know some dogs that had the prefix of cry-on,and I had a female with the name of Drive-Hard Kate. I came up with Drive-On.It is unique and shows action, which is what I want my dogs to be doing Driven on the bunny track. :D

Southern Pride has been the name of our General/ Prime Contracting Co for many years. It has the ancient St. Andrews cross which is also the Alabama State flag as our logo. Our co website is wwwprideshows.com check it out.

Pride shows is our Co motto and also our kennel motto. Pride does show in what you do! Lack of pride shows even more!

We named our kennel Southern Pride and use the same logo on our hats, shirts, coats, etc. and I'm retired pretty much now. My son and kennel partner Gavin will keep the kennel name, but his Co name is Qualla Contractors, Inc. and he builds under that name. Jason, another son and kennel partner is a Trussville policeman and builds houses and his Co. is Grant Construction, Inc.

I named ours for a Line Of Beagles that my great uncle had back in Mo. In the 40s they were around until in the late 50s i got to see the last of this line run in the late 60s early 70s nobody has used it as a kennel name since 1932 and it reminded me of the Hawthorn thicket on the ridges where we hunted coons as a kid so there ya go Thornridge beagles.

I got my name on the way home from the first trial I ever went to, I met a guy who rode with us up there that weekend and his kennel name was Turnback kennel I made fun of his dogs all weekend ( in fun) and he asked me what I was going to name my kennel and I said I think I will name mine Swingaround. He bet me money I wouldnt do it, so I had to prove to him I would. So back when we first started going to the chat room I would go in as Swingaround, and alot of the guys that was in there couldnt type very good or fast shortned my name to Swing. Some of the guys were Tnbeagleman ( Harold Whitner) J. Murphy ( Redtick a.k.a. David Haugh) Lynn Perkins ( "Slow & Retarded") Aaron ( Sloppy Boy Kennel a.k.a. David Haugh)
Chad Blair ( Top-Pup) Bob ( boB) and Emery ( The dog setter)
But anyway thats how the name stuck was because those clowns couldnt type.

Actually, I think it is Swing that can't type. So he shortened it himself so he woudn't look silly mispelling his owng name all the time. :D

When I was single I made the names up myself by what they looked like or how I was feeling at the time. But now my girls name them for me...I have one red dog named Scarlett and her tri-color brother is named Ashley. (I call him Buddy.)

Me and my brother bought 2 bluetick females to start our kennel. We named our kennel Blue Briar Kennel. We just came up with it the day we were traveling to KY to pick up the pups. We plan on raising blue and red tick hounds. We thought this was a suitable name that will let people now what types of hounds we are raising. We thought it was an original name too. Hopfully in a couple years we will have a web site and sell some pups.

As for the name of our hounds we start each one out with LUIKARTS(thats are last name)BLUE BRIAR and then the name of what ever we call the dog.

GOOD TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now they are just at 4 months old. I've showed a rabbit and let them chase it around a little bit. But I'm raising them to be gun dogs. I have never been in a field trail but I hope to with these hounds but for the most part they will be gun dogs.
