Bought a few bags of the Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete 32/25 to try. I like the idea of high fat for quick energy. Seems to pack a lot of bang for the buck so far. First feed in some time I've had to cut amounts fed back on due to weight gain which is saving me some $.
Not a huge fan of Diamond but the Naturals interested me and seem to be pretty good.

The white bag didn't look to bad, I'd be willing to try it. I tried to send them an email with some questions about the feed but the email on the site was no good?????

Sexton Bros. feed is real good for live traps,it works to catch Coons. Wouldn't feed it to my Hounds. I'll stick with Pride.

brad before you buy this food go to a place that sells it look for a bag that has been there for a week or so you will be able to tell by looking at the bag grease will be staining the bottom I tried it on driver when I first got him in less than 2 weeks his coat looked bad and as crabby said twice the stool runnie dog got real slugish just my opinion but as danny said you have some fine hounds and as the old saying is you get what you pay for see you later

Not trying to be smart TC,but next chance you get,do some investigating and see what the relationship between Purina and the Kentucky Houndsmen Association is.They really help them out financialy, and help out at the big 5 hunts. If you notice on the K.H.A. hats and shirts they have the Purina logo.I also appreciate them being at the big hunts with free food, hats, and food bowls, they don't have to do it.JUSt WHat Does purina Do For houndsman??????

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
guys no dissrepect..but I have seen dogs run on this food and they look just as good and run just as good or longer than any of the "big names"..I am not promoting Sexton Bros..but I am going to give them a fair and unbiased shot. If it doesn't do well I will be the first to tell it...but I don't buy into the idea that you have to feed Purina or big name to win a big hunt..Junebug's Lucy dog has eat nothing but Sexton Bro's and I think she has as much endurance and looks as healthy as any dog out there..i looked at his kennels..they are very clean..no mess..NONE. I appreciate the comments and everybody has an opinion and different luck I guess..I am not an expert on feed or anything but I do know this..sometimes it's not the feed. If ya dog can't compete maybe it has a heart problem...it doesn't have the fight or the heart to get it done. Don't blame it on feed. I won't...btw..my hounds will be ready if they have to eat gravy and biscuits thats what ol pappy fed his

I have heard that they Contribute a lot but Just Cannot find out Where and in What ways....
At the Club we had in Oregon I contacted them about Sponcering one of our hunts and they sent me a package.
a Banner to put up and Some dog bowls (3) Some $5 off bag a food coupons (3 of them)that was All I heard from them..
Like you said I will Do some more research and see what kind of support they provide...
you always see there Signs and plackards and such at all the shows but I do know the club is Charged for the armbands ect.
Do they help pay for the advertisments?? beings thier name is on the adds and Such I Would think So!! just do not know
As far as Sextons feed i have No first hand knowladge of it but i do know that different feeds Can affect different dogs when we were activly showing EVERYBODY fed EUKENUBA mu hounds looked like S&%t on it. then i went to the Diamond lamb and Rice Everybody said it was garbage Well mine did great on it..
I feed Dog Chow now and the hounds are doing well i also found Mine looked good on the OL Roy red bag and ran well just it was a mess to clean up and Stunk to high heaven...
A few of mine Did well on the black Gold others lost weight and coats got dull ect So i went back to dog Chow.
good Luck with the Sextons And let us know.

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
I have switched from dog chow to pride in the black bag and my hounds seem to be doing fine. The price is not that big of a diference but right now every lil bit helps. If the sexton brothers dosen't work out you may try the pride. It seems to be a good quailty feed. I too have tried the sexton bros and it seemed like it was greasy and alot of runy stool but mabe that was just me poop eaters fault.
Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
I like the high fat in the winter but hounds don't need it in the summer. Most Co's have a summer and a winter blend now, lower fat/protein in summer, high fat makes a mushy stool in summer, hounds need the fat for heat in the winter. I kept hounds on high fat/protein one summer and the dogbox and concrete got oily from their skin, to much fat/oils.
The hear bear puts on his fat for the winter/fish/meat, summer is berries and grasses...

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
thanks brad for the remarks about my dogs. i usually dont put my two cents in on these type of posts. but we all have oppinions. im not bashing no other brand of feed. we all have our picks. i have fed sextons all my life. and had success with it. now is it the feed, i dont know, one thing i do know is that we all have had dogs that it wouldnt have mattered if we changed there name to "POPEYE" and fed him spinach four times a day, he would still be a ZERO. so do i think dog food makes a dog. no. you cant push a rope. if the dog has heart, and desire. it will be there no matter what its eatin......, shoot, i drive a ford, use regular unleaded, and feed sexton brothers dog food. but come march if i have money. all three will get me to indiana....

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
now im not a sextons fan
but i agree with june bug as well
the feed dont make the dog
i hate when people talk about pro plan like if you dont feed it you will never win
but i would feed sextons before i would feed the pro plan again
i hate that stuff
i know every body loves it and everything
but ive seen alot of dogs on it that have bad lookin coats
and look poor and it made mine mouthy
maybe its just because there run so hard that they look poor
but i dont think that has anything to do with there dull coats
so maybe it aint as good as everybody thinks
but i would honestly feed the sextons feed before i would feed it again
even if they gave it to me
i have to say i have seen some good lookin dogs on sexton bros
my buddy and i was running dogs last night and he feeds sextons and ill have to admit his dogs look great
he claims its better than it was 10 years ago
i still dont think its a high quailty feed and i wouldnt recommend it but maybe ive been a lil harsh and misjudged it
let me know how it does brad
