I don't think good feed makes the dog but...

When "Meat and Bone Meal" is listed I'll pass. I'm not a fan of feeding euthanized animals from animal shelters, zoos, farms, and veterinarians. Not to mention any road kill carcasses they can find. Digestability is usually below 50% so savings are only perceived. I had someone tell me they were paying $12 a bag (in bulk) for a feed with almost exact same ingredients as Sexton. Told me the recent batch seemed good, they weren't dripping feces as much walking around... Come on now. Also, why would you use a feed with BHA. :???:

No need to be pretty sure when you can be positive. Valley Proteins 540-877-2590 ask them yourself.

Brad let us know how it works out.

Purina is my favorite. Pro Plan is the best ive ever fed. I fed the regular for a long time when I was able to run alot. I still go back during gun season. I think the mess says it all. Very little. Purina has probably spent more on research than all of the others combined.

I agree the feed doesnt make a dog and never will. Nutrition is important in my opinion but you can win hunts or have good dogs no matter what you feed.

I started feeding my dog the red bag about 3 monthes ago and they are doing great i also have a friend that feeds the red bag to his fox hounds he tryed just about every high protein dog food there is he had 8 grand field dogs past away because of to much protein the vet told him to much can kill a dog he field trails all over the U.S. and has been fox hunting for over 30year and he feeds only the red bag and is still wins just about every time he goes. If it works good for fox hounds way wont it work for beagles fox hounds run a lot more then any beagle i know but like everyone says everyone has there on opion.

Two points,
(1) an old saying goes, "Foxes & Hares are killed in kennels".
This means the keeping of hounds is first and foremost important if you've hope of catching your fox or hare. The hounds must be well cared for, kept and fed top nutritional foods that feed the demand of their bodies when the day runs looong...
(2) Foxhounds mostly keep to their orginal fox, beagles often change a beaten hare for a fresh one and the pace can be top speed for a longer durations for the little guys.
I would agree foxhounds can run faster, but it is arguable that they run at top speed for any longer duration... ;)

I'm 48 years old and have been around hunting dogs of one kind or another as long as I can remember.Since I was around 14 years old I have competition hunted in coonhounds, squirrel dogs and now rabbit hounds. I have had some success in each aspect of the different types of hunting. Over the years I have feed many different types of feed and I have found that the secert to most of it is to put it in a good clean bowl beside plenty of fresh water where your dogs can get to it. Most of us including myself have plenty of business of our own to take care of without gettihg involved in everyone elses.
Just judge the Hounds, Don't worry who the owner is.

Well went and toured the mill..met everyone there..the whole family..Freeman Sexton took me up to see his hounds..he showed me what he feeds and how much..and I must say his hounds looked great. I have been feeding it for about a week now and trying different feed on different dogs..I am even still feeding Purina to one dog..to be 100 percent honest I don't see any change in anything so far..the only thing I do see is the stool is actually firmer and less of it. I am feeding the same to all the dogs. So I will know more in a week or 2..but as of now it is looking good and is doing a fine job.
Terrific folks over there
