Re: The best stud hound today
If the stud dog doesn't compliment and fill in the gaps of your female, I don't care what he has produced, you will be lucky to get what you want. Anybody expecting to breed to the flavor of the day and get an automatic great dog has a lot to learn. Pick your stud very selectively. I am a firm believer in cross breeding to get a well rounded dog. All those dogs are great! I actually own 3 from those studs and have a 4th with pups from one of them. I have a Reggie female that is as clean and close as I personally have seen from him. She is very young, 10 months but can run the heck out of a rabbit. I have have a Storm female that does a real nice job and have 5 pups out of him and my FC Kaddie. I have two out of Blazer's stock one from him and one out of his mother. All these dogs are great when bred to the right female. Just my 2 cents.

Re: The best stud hound today
I would say based on a pure percentage of number of breedings to placing dogs produced, that FC Branko's Cougar Magnum has them all beat. Mike & Todd Blackburn have him now in South west Michigan at stud for Scott. It should be interesting to see what Cougar produces now that he will have more offspring in midwest & arha lp areas.
IFC Green Bay Shooter has also produced a good number of placing offspring that have his line running ability.
FC JR's Topgun Tyke is producing some real nice dogs also.

So far from what I have seen and been told he is producing very well. I bred Kelly Girl to him one of his first litters, I think they are just hitting two years old would have to check the records. But that was a great cross. Jim has the female out of that litter her name is Moochie (SP?) and she is a go go rabbit getter. People will be seeing her in the trials soon.
Another hound that is producing and he is up in age and for the most part spent his time as a gun dog and that is Pine Mt. Sandman.
There are just some good hounds to choose from right know. I do think that is one of the main benefits of the computer. You can find any stud hound anywhere.
Whats that mean will? Just get tired of tirekickers.........And yes moochie will be on the circut this year hopefully in both formats. My vote is for trials, i just like the yankee that owns him...

Re: The best stud hound today
I agree with Steve's comments regarding Trails ability as reproducer has yet to proven due to his age, but I have a 12 month old female out of Trails and a Turbo bitch that is quickly becoming one of the best hounds I have owned that I think will be campaigning in AKC in about a year. As long as Trails continues to be bred to good solid bitches I think people will be hearing more about Trails pups in the years to come.

Re: The best stud hound today
Thank you all for keeping to the topic on the thread. I think people can see some of the good in all the studs we have posted. Not only my top six, but some other worthy studs.
FC COUGAR MAGNUM; I have never seen this dog or really know anything about him. What is his Sire and Dam? Has he thrown any field Champions in any format? What is his hunt, foot, mouth, line controll, ect. Would like to get some input on this dog.

Jeremy... Cougar a 13" male out of Magnum Force and Paloma Blanca if not mistaken. He has produced one IFC and couple other FC from very limited amount of litters.

Another angle to think of.The right dog placed in the right hands ,meaning ran like they should hauled too trials and time put in....A good dog suddenly is great...Reggie was exposed too lots of miles and trials. He was average in ky first time then great when kevin finished him. I like kevin very well and he showed the world what a good dog can be. I just wish i was putting the stud fees in my pocket. I just dont have the time and or patience to do it. Nice post.

Re: The best stud hound today
THAT IS A GOOD POINT --JIMBO-ADVERTISEMENT SELLS MORE HOUNDS THAN ABILITY ANY DAY,ONE OR TWO GOOD PUPS DON'T MAKE A STUD DOG UNLESS YOU FALL FOR THE HYPE.AND THEN IF IT DON'T WORK OUT IF WAS A BAD FEMALE.........P.S.I GOT A NEW MALE THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The best stud hound today
I don't think there is such a thing as the best. Too many factors in to play there. When a breeding is done right, the two must be matched to compliment each other. I have yet to find a perfect dog so how can you breed every bitch to just one dog and expect all the pieces to fall in place. I have said this before and here it is again..............most folks breed with the intentions of keeping one or maybe two pups out of a litter and hope they keep the best ones then want to make sure they can sell the rest by using a well know stud dog. To me, this is not a breeder but just someone rolling the dice........ JMO

Re: The best stud hound today
Maybe you should have a survey on best stud hound NOT alive, WITH frozen semen availiable, who know what's out ther????

Re: The best stud hound today
this one aint posted however i will throw him in the mix since we are talking about reproducers..with limited breedings...
ftch nlpc harecharmer ringo has to fall into play...in the states i only know of 4 hounds directly out of him and all are champions in the field in one format or another...if you look at the beagles placing in canada their are a quite a few out of him placing and finishing in large pack on hare ...what the percentages are i am not sure but they have got to be way up their..just my opinion and nothing else but the facts stand about reproducing he has several placing and winning in all formats with limited breedings...tracy

yes he does yellowdig, i own one to so i guess i am a little leaning his way, but he finished runner up a couple of years ago as the top sire, if you go to canadabeagles.com i think you can look and see whats placing, but he is a great repoducer harecharmer ringo...........also he seems to have put nice reproducing in his offspring as well.

Re: The best stud hound today
Yea I have heard all about Moochie and Jimmy tells me she's tuff. Well if he says it you can usually take it to the bank cause he hasn't never told me any lies. About Junie producing judged a nice 15in male at the In state a couple years ago out Junie and he's one of the key factors that made me want to breed to Junie. The male didn't win but I will tell you one thing! If it would of been some "rocking and rolling'' things might of been different. He also got on a split (I think) and if I remember right he was second in the cast. I think Jimmy told me that dog is a grand champion now in Arkansas. And he was very young at the time so he can't be too old now. The pups we have out Junie are 5 weeks old now and they are into everything. Can't wait until they get up to age to trial. To Pine Mt. Sandman I hear he has a nice 1 yr old female out of him. Gonna get down Jimmy's way in a few weeks and can't wait too sit back and let the dogs run and throw the bullets down.MasonsBeagles wrote:
