Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
Brad,
What type food are you trying on your dogs? I was on their web looking at the different kinds and was just wondering which ones you are trying. If I find out where the closest dealer is to Richmond, Ky I might give it a try after more feed back from you. What other dog foods are their prices compatible to?

This thread has some funny ideas in it.
I read were several guys talked about the food giving them worms.
The worms come the environment the dogs live in, and lack of treating the dogs for worms.
Worms will make a running dog poor (weight loss, poor coat, and poor performance).
Another guy said a food made his dog mouthy, I don't even know where to begin to make a relationship from the feed to mouthy.
I have fed a lot of different types of feed.
I always end up back to Black Gold and Pride. My dogs do well on them both.
Occasionally, I think all feed mills put out "bad batches".
It depends on the incoming stream of ingredients. Maybe the corn or the bone meal is inferior. Batches of food from those ingredients will be inferior. The advantage of Purina is that there ingredient stream to the plant is so large, they are consistent. I don't feed purina because my dogs have never done well on it (they did better on dog chow than they did on hi-pro).
I remember the end of last year that Black Gold black bag seemed like it was burnt and the dogs didn't eat much of it or do well. So I switched to pride. I fed it all, and have been "brand sold" on any brand, but have had better results with the Black Gold and Pride.
I've have always fed meat scraps most every day and kept my dogs wormed, so me dogs generally stay healthy until the end of gun season when they are getting a little run down. Even then they are in better physical condition than some of the dogs I have seen at field trials.
I've never tried sexton brothers feed, so I don't have an opinion.

I've tried about every dog food they sell in this area. For the price, they all suck! I've found joy or high standard are the best for the buck. I think they are the same feed.
Keep the best, cull the rest!

I believe this! We have tried a few feeds over the years, and when we used Iams a few years ago, they were literally bouncing off the walls!!! It was like watching a kid on a sugar rush. No focus, just GO GO GO!!! Dogs cannot do their jobs properly when they're on a poor diet. It's just not possible to function when your blood sugar is spiked or the food is barely meeting minimum daily requirements ...

I feed Pro Plan I've used the proformance and it will hype up a dog thats a fact..If you feed proformance you better run the hair off your hounds or they could become mouthy, and rattle headed.i've seen it and even cut a good dog once before I figured it out.I feed the adult and works well for me. Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
I've never seen the effect of mouthiness while in the hunting field, but rather on the hounds while in the kennel. We fed the Pride 27/18 (blue bag) and the hounds were as had one to many cups of coffee, hyper and barking in kennels. it did juice them up...

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
Well I am still feeding it and everything is going good..no mess..nice coats..been running and the dogs have plenty of energy..i believe I have found my feed for awhile. Just had them tested for worms at the vet..all good..the feed that seems to be the best is the 27/16 ESP..the 24/18 pro edurance seems to be good also..just letting everyone know..
thanks
Brad

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
i dont think you have to worry about worms unless your feedin the floorsweep, that is what i fed and had worm problems with, and if ya think it is silly,go over there and look at all the rat droppings and rats runnin all around the place, that is where the worms come from, rat droppings get swept up with the floorsweep and pass on worms,i may be wrong but i doubt it...............

floor feed is not swept off the floor.lets say they making 22/16 the guy who is mixing the ingredient put to much corn or not enough fat in it.that batch become floor feed.sometime the knifes that cut the dog food mess up and the pellet are the wrong shape or to long, then that become floor feed.floor feed is at least 21% or better.
