Re: Letter from ARHA
The rule is 15", abide by it or stay home, it's that simple. I can't stand all the senseless bitching about it.

Re: Letter from ARHA
I am not bitching ...Just asking a simple question, say you have a dog that is bout 14 1/2 he wins and makes a grand champion....then u take him to a hunt and he he gets messured and is found to be 14 1/2 and then a few weeks later you take him and someone messures him again and he is found to be 15 3/4? then what you lose all your titles ? ...i dont have a proubly with runing 13 or 15 most of mine are right at 15 like a lot of other guys...

Re: Letter from ARHA
I will agree donot put the dog in if it was over 15.I like my under 13 in.But if I was to reg a pup that is still growing were it akc or anyother hunt and the dog goes to 15 and a half, can I get My reg money back.If not It not fare for anybody to keep my money and then say you cannot run in a trial because your dog is to big.I look at it this way its a grade dog if it cannot enter a trial.I do 20 trials a year down here in NC and If I started to charge for reg the dog you will enter that dog or get your money back. That the way I look at it.Fareness.That just like buying shells. You told me it was a 12 ga but now when I open the box its a 10 ga can I get my money back.
Re: Letter from ARHA
Well, why complain, you can always get an official measurement. Oh, that's right, ARHA doesn't do official measurements.
Well, at least it will be an approved measuring stand. Oh, that's right, PVC pipe or a tacked together yard stick is OK in ARHA.
Well, at least the breed inspector measuring your dog will be trained. Oh, that's right, ARHA doesn't have measuring seminars.
Well, you can always take him to an Official Measurer in case you have doubts. Oh, that's right, no such thing.
I know, wait until the finals of the World Hunt, and maybe you will get measured out. Then you will know that your dog is too big.
Maybe we should all raise little 13" pot-bellied, crooked-legged little pigs. I am sure that would really improve the breed. Let's all keep the littlest male in the litter. He will surely be the most dominant, and make the best rabbit hound.
If ARHA really wants to improve the breed, why not make dogs entered in the field score a certain amount of points on the bench. You could take off a few points for dogs that good nutrition and a strong breeding program caused to grow.
I gave away the best young male I have raised in the last several years this summer because he was in sometimes, and over others. When I read something like this it makes me think I must be the dumbest guy alive to get rid of a big, strong, dominating young dog because he might be pushing the limit.
And to all of those guys who say, "you know he is over ..........," please start at the beginning and read this post again.

very good post jim, there are a lot of full 15 in hounds runnin in arha, they need to addopt an official measurement to protect these dogs against people callin for measurements and the moh props the dog up and he goes over, then you go to a hunt the next day and the dog measures in,appoint people to do the official measurements, state reps, members of the e board or watchdog commitee ect.
if you are goin to the extremes by pullin points and titles, then give the owners of these borderline dogs a chance to get the dog officialed that way they dont spend countless years and money trialing the dog then get to the finals of the world hunt and get measured out.....

Re: Letter from ARHA
I have a running walker for sale. Can smoke a rabbit, if the right person measures him, he is under 15 inches, if someone is honest, he stands 18 1/2 inches. Take your chances and improve your herd with him. He will produce bigger walkers than himself, so next year you will have 20 inch hounds that you can debate to trial and improve your herd with. THIS IS A NOTHER GOOD POST
IF ARHA OR NKC HAD OTHER RULES(ESPECIALLY LITTLE PACK) TO GO WITH THE 15 IN RULE, IT WOULD BE NICE,SUCH AS SCORING A JUMP....MINUS A HOUND, FOR PULLING A HOUND OF THE CHECK AREA,BACK TRACKING OR COLD TRAILING,,,,,,,,.AS FOR SIZE I DON'T OWN A HOUND OVER 15 IN,,BUT" I HAD MUCH RATHER HAVE A 16 IN BEAGLE.AKC REG.WITH PED,,,,,,, THAN A HALF FIEST OR DASHUND AND BEAGLE CROSS THAT WAS 14 7/8... THERE ARE COLLIES, SHEPERDS AND COON HOUNDS, REGISTERED AS BEAGLES IN A.R.H.A.I KNOW I WAS HERE FROM THE BEGINING.WHEN SOME ONE SAY'S IF YOU RUN A HOUND OVER 15 IN,,, IT HURTS THE BEAGLE BREED I JUST DON'T BELIEVE THAT NO WAY ..BUT THE RULES SAY 15 IN. AND THEY SHOULD INFORCE.. THEM....BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN AT THE TRIALS IN THE LAST COUPLE YEARS,THE JUDGES USE THE RULES AS A GUIDE LINE TO PLACE THE DOG THEY WANT TO PLACE..
PINE MT BEAGLES
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!15 1/2 IN HOUND OLD INDIAN WORD FOR MY DOG RUNS TO SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Letter from ARHA
glad to see they are gonna try and fix it...
Too bad there are no standardized measuring standards.
Come to think of it what are we all going to bitch about know if they get the sizes right.

Re: Letter from ARHA
I never said the standard of 15" was wrong. Read my post again. The problem is people who have never been taught how to correctly measure, using all kind of different stands, getting inconsistent results. And, there is no way for an owner to get an official measurement on a dog so that he can run him without fear of a poor measurement that would label a dog incorrectly.CPC wrote:I have a running walker for sale. If the E-Board and ARHA are so concerned about big dogs, why don't they set up at all of the Big 5's and State Hunts and offer official measurements?????????? They all talk the talk, and say they want to stop all the big dogs, but what are they doing? I am sure people would be watching, so they could see the correct way to measure at the same time. I have yet to see the E-Board of ARHA do one thing to make this problem better. All they have done so far is talk it to death.
I'll bet if they did this, many beaglers would take advantage of the opportunity. If an owner raised a borderline dog, this would give him a chance to know for sure whether the dog should be run in hunts or not.
