Dog Foods?
Moderators: Pike Ridge Beagles, Aaron Bartlett
I was going to go back up to my original post and mention Kasco. I had a friend that has bird dogs that used it until it got too expensive for his taste and switched to Diamond. His dogs always had enough to hunt ALL day. One thing tho, don't be around when the dog takes a dump. It stinks to high heaven!!!

Iams Partners With Leading Anti-Hunting Organization- (01/09)

The Iams Company, maker of Iams and Eukanuba pet foods, has joined forces with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest anti-hunting organization.
The company is helping sponsor the Pet Fest America tour, a series of animal shows in major metropolitan areas, nationwide. The shows were developed by HSUS. They debuted in early 2003 and will continue through April 2004.
“Sportsmen, and in particular sporting dog owners, understand the threat HSUS poses to hunting, field trialing and other activities,” said Bud Pidgeon, president of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Iams has fallen into the same trap as some other businesses and it needs to be educated.”
Companies such as General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest.
“The Pet Fests are basically pet owner education and welfare events and also serve to educate and entertain consumers,” Kelly Vanasse, Iams associate director of external affairs told the Alliance. “We also sponsor Ducks Unlimited, AKC and other events. We try to strike a balance.”
Iams clearly doesn’t understand how sportsmen will view its support for the nation’s largest anti-hunting organization.
“We are currently fighting HSUS attempts to ban dove hunting in Wisconsin, bear hunting in Maine and Alaska, and other anti-hunting threats around the country,” said Pidgeon. “Iams is adding legitimacy to HSUS’s efforts.”

Well, what do ya know. I go home to the folks yesterday and there sits a bag of Iams dog food. My dad didn't know but told me he would buy no more.
Bullboy, you are correct on the minority thing. Problem is, we really have nothing to complain about so there is nothing for us to whine about. I think soon enough we will though.

I recently switched to THE PRIDE 3-50lbs bags ago and I am extremly pleased with it for 14.50 a 50lb bag I love it and you can see a difference in the dogs coat and a couple is actualy gaining weight on the same amount as purina puppy chow, I used black gold and couldn't tell a difference in it and purina but you can look at the pride dog food and it just looks greasier.
I feed nurticare to my hounds and once it starts to get cold i make food for them on my wood stove. I use a corn meal base available at any feed store about $5 for fifty pounds and throw in scraps and meat and then add oil( cod fish or vegetable if i run out of cod) and brewers yeast and vitamin supplements. All cooked to a boil so the corn meal is digestable. The dogs love it and I think the warm food helps during the cold. It make there coats heavy and shiny and helps keep the weight on them they used to lose during heavy day in and out running. They also have auto feeders in case they want a little more to eat. The cost is minimal I spend less during the winter on food than during the summer when they are on dry food only. Some people have told me I'm nuts but it seems to work for me and them.
