For my .02$
Anything that goes back to Dom's Dougie. Ausable River, Lake Ogemaw, Birch lake.
Don't know about Northway. I haven't seen enough of them that were not outcrossed.
Some old mountain man told me Sock it too me is footie too. I don't know if I would believe him though

Modock,
I ran that hound for Jim for a while. He had decent foot but, I wouldn't call him fast. I think that his check ability made him look faster than he was. Not bashing that little guy cause I did like him, but he wasn't a burner.

Surely not trying to start anything but I see where several of you guys are saying that Patch dogs are fast.Granted I've not seen them all but the ones I've seen around these parts are not what I would call fast dogs. They appear to be good hunters that can run a rabbit and bring him to the gun but,I wouldn't describe them as hard hitting or fast.JMHO of course.

Re: What bloodline produces speed
This is great guys. I love hearing all the information on the bloodlines. I am fairly new to the beagles, have hunted the big hounds for years and years. I currently have a few dogs, 2 blue sly bred dogs, a patch dog, and a woodstock, otterbrooks dog named Fulcount Clint. I am looking to get something with really good speed as 2 of these dogs I would say are fast, but not knowing what a dog is really considered, it's been hard to decide. It's just hard to find anything here in Washington so I looking to make an educated guess on some breeding I'd like. Keep it coming you guys are great help. Thanks again.
Re: What bloodline produces speed
You're 110 % correct Shady !!! All Patch dogs aren't fast and I've owned and seen several different ones . Lesage Bill Patch throws the most speed I've seen so far , BUT I'm thinking the Eberles stuff is gonna be super fast too ? I'm sure Mike Crabtree wouldn't have kept his Honey female (Eberles bred) this long if she wasn't awesome and I have a female Patch pup here that looks like she will be nice . I'm guessing most of the Patch breeders out there can look at a pedigree and tell you slow , medium or fassssst if they'll be honest with themselves . That being said they don't have to be super fast to be great gun dogs but ain't it nice to be 150 yards in front of your buddies dog when the braggin startsShady Grove Beagles wrote:Surely not trying to start anything but I see where several of you guys are saying that Patch dogs are fast.Granted I've not seen them all but the ones I've seen around these parts are not what I would call fast dogs. They appear to be good hunters that can run a rabbit and bring him to the gun but,I wouldn't describe them as hard hitting or fast.JMHO of course.

This one is fast enough imo .

nwhound, what otterbrook hound blood do you have ?, they're not always the fastest running hounds, but they lead the pack alot.

Re: What bloodline produces speed
I have seen some patch that can rock and roll. I only have one "northway" hound and he is not the fastest thing... but like I said wit a few good crosses to some branko... armondo's stuff and a little other sure can make a pretty package!!
There are fast and slow in every line.... just poke around and you will find what you want.
