Male - Rch Cottontail Blues Rowdy, female - Mark Ross's Rocksie Girl. Both were not only fast but good track dogs, too.
Re: what is the fastest hound you ever seen
I judged that cast that jimbo is talkin about and let me tell you spade and bumper our both extra special spade was not in run up as hard as he should have been and just ran out of steam and bumper picked up a couple checks at the end and just beat him.But something about spade when i was running him for passmore and he got the front and began to chop it was over boys fastest dog i ever seen period.

I owned Spade for a while, but couldn't keep him. He was just too much dog for me. I didn't have anything else that could run with him and it was making the rest of my pack way too rough. He is the fastest dog that I have seen run a rabbit and keep pressure on the rabbit. In a straight out foot race .........I would say Osborne's Big Crook was probably faster though. He could roll, but couldn't keep the race going without long break-downs. I own Spades litter-mate brother but he isn't anywhere near as fast. He will be 8 in January but hasn't lost a step.

Couple ones that I have seen back in the early 90's were: Crains HH Red Jessie, owned by Tom Kitzmiller. She would get away from the other dogs. Like it was a one dog race.
Another few that I remember are Big Meadows Bull and Fannie owned by Dennis Kennedy.

So, you are saying he wouldn't "slot up"? Hmmm... I guess the SPO boys wouldn't be lined up to breed to that dog. Ha ha I took a fast dog like that and let some of those slot up guys see it run. They said they would shoot it before it multiplied.

Re: what is the fastest hound you ever seen
Larry most of the old guys around here say that too. I doubt that they have ever seen a true fast dog that can do it like the ones that are being described here. Slot up if you can or go lay down . A true fast dog that can run a track is something to behold. They will be the most torn up at the end of the day and probably the last one back at the truck. So, you are saying he wouldn't "slot up"? Re: what is the fastest hound you ever seen
Larry, back in my day we cared less if dogs slotted up in a pile. We ran young green dogs with hard hitting dogs so i guess the way we ran is why they ran the way they did, cut swing whatever it took to get there. Also when running 3 hard hitting males together there is gonna be checks, like it or not. Slicing dicing running were not for any of these dogs at that time.

Re: what is the fastest hound you ever seen
As long as a dog goes where the rabbit goes, it can't be too fast for me. It's when they start going places the rabbit didn't that they go to new homes. But I will say this... if you want to sell a dog, just tell the buyer he or she is fast... that's all they want or need to know.

Larry,
Since bramlett hounds are in demand you say and northway is not, poses a question. What is the fastest hound you have seen?

I owned Spade when he as in his prime, and he sure could roll. The Crook dog could run the front on him all day every day. I wound up selling both of them, couldn't get my buddies to run with me. Crook was just a pup then. He would jump a rabbit, and just own it. He had a coon hound mouth and was really clean with it. Crook is in Mississippi as far as I know, running swampers.

I'd say one fast dog that comes to mind, is 1999 World Champion Weedeater Rudy's Kicker. He was a pure beast in Indiana. He ran a lot like his mother Smith's Weedeater Rudy, she could set the earth on fire too. I would have liked to seen him and Spade go head to head in Indiana.

Re: what is the fastest hound you ever seen
Was a grade dog, but a female I got from Jack XDawg was close. She is T-Rex and Northway. And I bought some pups by Tughill Buddy Black and out of a Striker bitch that were fast. Buddy is by Speedy Sport. Dogs of that breeding are better suited to running hare, deer, fox, something other than cottontail rabbit... something that runs a straight line and leaves a lot of scent. No hare around here but I had some good deer chases.
The down side to selling fast dogs is, most of the ones who want them are like me, drive an old rust bucket and shop at Family Dollar stores. They don't want to pay more than about a hundred dollars for a good one and I can understand that. The SPO guys will spend several thousand in a flash if they think one will finish. And I don't think for a minute the Bramlett dogs are any better, I just said they are in demand. Everywhere I took the little black and tans, people wanted to know what they were and if I would sell them. Why hell yes I would sell them which is why they are gone. Very average rabbit dogs IMHO. That doesn't matter, it's what the suckers believe that counts. Something tells me I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know, Jimbo.
