Waits Ky amy, best mouth god ever give a dog.Bruners lucky, could run a cutting rabbit and make you like it.Handled like a child. Pine Mtn Chester,Ran with purpose and could fire out of checks, another reason i built around him,he was a natural rabbit dog.

Re: Your favorite all time hound??
This is an interesting post--especially how people's favorites are based on the traits they value.
My favorite was Sexton's Hobo because the longer you ran, the more he owned the pack. And at the end of a week long hunting trip, he was still fresh every morning. Nothing makes me love a dog more than causing the wannabes to walk out and Hobo made a lot of them stir the leaves making a bed.
My favorites that I saw at hunts were Waylon's Bomb because he was always a first class rabbit dog, Waits Ky. Amy showed how to hunt, straight for the briar patch, and my dad's dog, Logan Elm Willie because he just kept getting quarters, check after check.

My dog would be Sandy, and old grade dog that would find a rabbit.I remember one time with 9 more dogs we kill 18 and she jump all 18.Never started running till she was 2 years old.She was what you call a jump dog.Didnot hunt hard but for some reason she would go right to a rabbit and be looking at him.

Re: Your favorite all time hound??
Hey, Toot Toot!!! (aka Butch)... lol
This post heading said Your favorite all time hound? Butch said it right when he said Shooter was his all time favorite hound.. Nothing wrong with that. It all depends on how your read this heading.
My all time favorite was Shingle Creek Lil Rocky (Triplet Creek Sam X Triplet Creek Candy) most of this went back to Joe Corullos old time breeding. This dog was one of my first hounds I owned and was a pleasure to hunt with no matter what. Came when called (never had to leave him overnight) Placed him in trials when I brought him, I think he placed in almost every trial he was ever entered into.. I didn't campaign him much.. maybe 5 trials. If I brought him into the house he was naturally house broke.. Never once did he make a mess in the house. Rocky was My favorite all time hound. I now have a little bitch that is quickly moving into that place as a favorite. She is Directly out of (IFC Green Bay Shooter X Shoreacres Shakers Dinah)
I can easily see why alot of people say they like Shooter. If my memory serves me correct... I judged Shooter at a Sanctioned trial on snow there were about 15-20 dogs entered and Shooter really put on a show that day. I had never seen this male run before this day and there was already alot of talk about this dog and his abilities on snow. There were alot of dogs in this class of dogs that were Field Champions and dogs that I have judged and placed in the past. If I'm correct, I think this was Borderlines 1st Sanctioned trial ever held in Febuary. There was about 2-3 feet of snow on the ground with a foot of fluffy snow on top. Now running was pretty steady but at a slow pace. Many of the lead dogs just could not make the turns. When the hare would turn or move into a different direction dogs were going over the end. I still remember Dog number 6 that day coming from mist of the pack and climbing over dogs trying to get to the front of the pack to straighten it out. Almost everytime while watching the same lead dogs on drive run this hare round and round there was always the same number 6 dog that was climbing over dogs almost burying them a foot below the snow to get to the front and fix it... and he would!!
I remember following these dogs through the snow and yelling to the other judge (Toby Nyman) out on the trial that the hare was coming his was and number 6 made the check and other dogs were determined to get by him before reaching the trail. Well before the dogs could get infront of him Toby and a marshall yelled back Number 6 has it. by the time he got to the trial about 3 dogs swung out and hit it ahead of him.. At every loss we either heard him make the check or we witnessed with our own eyes Shooter coming out with it.. It was something I have never seen in my whole life of beagling. after about 2 hours of this Shooter Climbing over dogs Check after Check, the other dogs finally gave up and just let Shooter run the show. The next 10 lines or so Shooter had them all. The rest of the pack following him around like a Queen Bee!
I'm sure this is just one reason why Shooter was Butch's Favorite of all times.. One of the others is probally his ability of throwing these traits into his pups. Just look at the results in the magazines for the number of times he has been bred he is out producing anything out there today.. No matter what he has been bred to his pups are winners and fantastic gun dogs. We will be hearing alot about this dog for years to come I believe. This past weekend we had a trial here with I believe a total of 76 entries and I think there were 10 Shooter dogs in the event out of the 10, 6 of them placed. Some finished for their titles some have been consistant for the past year or so placing and some this was there first trial. Congrats to them!!! I've only owned 2 dogs out of Shooter and they both went on to finish for thier FC title!! Toot Toot!!!!
The train is coming to a town near you and the engine is SHOOTER.. TOOT TOOT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dave Martin

Re: Your favorite all time hound??
Even though I normally run those faster dogs these days, I've got to say "my" favorite hound was naturally one of my own, one I lived with and gunned over for 15-1/2 years - my very first gun dog to be exact. Personality plus, desire, kennel manners, reliability, nose, correct mouth, naturally rabbit only, handled for me, medium speed line dog. When I started field trialing he was my trial dog. He never finished as a champion - won some 4th, 5th, and 6th place trophies in Little Pack...most of the other dogs were faster, but he would shine on a bad scenting day. Came time for a gun hunt he was the first dog requested to take.
He may not have been the best in the world, depending on what you want, but he was my favorite all-time hound:
He died in 2007. His AKC name was E.B. Bracken Blue. I called him Jack:

Wow Bev! That old jack hound of yours looks exactly like Clem with just a little more white in the face due to age.
My favorite was my old fella FTCH Fillmore's Northern Sly, he ran the same way they describe Shooter, turned with the line all the time and brought the check out to a run.

Re: Your favorite all time hound??
My favorit dog is was hands down Turbo Super Sport. The dog had a nose and would check a pack to death. He had a special bawl mouth that was music to your ears when he opened up. The only bad thing about him was that he didn't like to hunt hard unitl the first rabbit was up, after that he was all business! As old age creeped up on him he lost a little spedd, but nothing i have seen could match his ability to wind a rabbit. The best all around heads up style running dog i have seen!

BuschBound,
We will see if Chappy can live up to his dad. When I ran him tonight, he was running 2nd (just 2 dogs) and he was the one barking on the track and not the front dog. I think he shows some nose power. So far we only have a couple inches of snow with more coming Friday. Stay warm!!!!!!!!!
