HONEST/FAIR MEASURING

I BELIEVE YOU ARE AN HONEST AND FAIR MEAUSURER IF:

1. No matter who owns the hound, you measure it honestly and fairly to the best of your ability.
2. You do not intentionally measure a hound in the 13 inch class, so you PERSONALLY do not have to run your dog against it in the 15" class.
3. If the staff reads: 13 1/8, the hound is not in the 13 " class, it runs with the 15's.
4. If you measure a hound "IN," just because the club "needs the entry fee $. ( this one really gets me.......... in the long run the club will loose money)
5. When a dog does not stand, try to "pose" him in an upright, alert, and natural position.

*The trial starts when you start to measure the hounds. Honest/fair measuring leads to honest/fair judging.

This post is mainly for beaglers who run large pack and MWGDA. In these two formats, size does matter. (Ron Conroe eluded to this in an earlier post) I may add it is NOT ONLY the size, but the numbers. (when you have 40 little males and 15 big males, my chances are much better in the class of 15. A good, clean hound will not be seen in a class of 40. (large pack)

I believe the man that best adheres to the above standards is: Joe Brzezinski, Breezy's Kennels, in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Congratulations Joe!!!!!! Don't ever change, you are doing it the "RIGHT WAY."

a long list,yes,i know,but this is the list of all the judges i can remember running under off the top of my head,there are more that i forgot their names and i appologize for that,but,i watched all these gentlemen listed above measure hounds and they all did it by the book,fair and played no favoritism to anyone,not to mention,i watched quite a few of them measure dogs out of both classes.............

Now let me counter this in that we all know there is occasionally a dog measured in to complete a class and I think this is generally done by agreement e.g. "Well we only have 5 for big bitches but I have one in the truck that is CLOSE to 13" on a good day....she won't do much but I'm willing to put her in if she measures." That is fair all around and it happens for the betterment of the trial.

I recently watched Steve Bailey and Josh Patterson measure a winners pack and they did it right.
Two dogs measured over and they didn't pull any punches. I was impressed with their integrity.
It is tough when the handler is standing there and his nice dog made the winners pack but you have to send them down the road.
It is the correct thing to do.

I will not argue fairness when what is done for one is done for all.In my opinion the AKC needs to ammend the rules to either the 14 " class and 16' class then there would be less questions about honesty.It does happen 14's do get in to the 13 class 16 into the 15 class due to how the bar is placed and poor posing hounds and judges that feel sympathetic.Truily you do hurt the breed if you cut the number of dogs entered into competition.As it stands the on the withers AKC protocol does equal about 3/4 of an inch. When you get guys culling and breeding for true 13's they do feel short changed.Not being smart unless your the one dropping the bar it's not really easy to ascertain where it was placed on or behind the withers only God himself knows the real deal unless it's the holy cow deal.Even the best probabily make mistakes of a 1/8-1/4 inch.

I MUST AGREE,JOSH IS ONE OF THE BEST,HE WAS JUDGING BIG MALES AT THE FRST AKC JUNT I EVER ATTENDED ALONG WITH EARL RICE,I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE BOTH OF THEM,I WAS HOOKED AFTER THE FIRST HUNT,I THINK FOR THE MOST PART,JUDGES THAT ARE JUDGIN TODAY IN THE MIDWEST ARE AS HONEST AS THE DAY IS LONG ,YOUR GOIN TO HAVE THE OCCASIONAL BAD APPLE,BUT THEY ARE EXPOSED QUICK,THE NUMBERS OF ENTRIES DROP WHEN THEY ARE JUDGING AND THEY LOOSE JUDGING ASSIGNMENTS FAST,SO,IF A BAD APPLE DOESNT CHANGE HIS WAYS,THEY ARE DOIN NOTHING BUT HUNRTING THEMSELVES AND THE ORGINIZATION,YEAH,YOU HAVE YOUR POLITICS,BUT,FOR THE MOST PART,I THINK AKC IS BY FAR THE FAIREST FORMAT THERE IS,I KNOW A LOT WILL DISSAGREE,BUT,I AM INTITLED TO MY OPINION AND THAT IS IT....

NOT EVERYONE JIMBO,JUST THE JUDGES THAT I ACCTUALLY RAN UNDER AND SAW THEM MEASHURE DOGS,THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE NOT ON MY LIST THAT I AM SHURE ARE JUST AS HONEST AS THE ONES THAT ARE,BUT,I HAVE NOT RAN UNDER THEM OR SEEN THEM MEASURE HOUNDS,SO,UNTIL THEN,I CANT COMMENT,BUT,I REALLY FEAL THAT AKC JUDGES ARE FAIR IN THEIR MEASURING AND IT SHOWS,IF THEY WHERE PULLIN PUNCHES AND DOIN PEOPLE FAVORS BY MEASURING OVERSIZED DOGS INTO OTHER CLASSES,WEL,THEN YOU WOULD THINK THAT THERE WOULD BE DOGS IN FOR INSTANCE THE 13 IN CLASSES THAT CANT BE BEAT,THAT WIN EVERYTIME OUT BUT THAT IS NOT GOING ON......
