What were the symptoms? What age(s) where the dogs? What dog food were you feeding?

Here are some considerations:

1. A new disease (There appears to be a new malady floating around where dogs are becoming extremely pale, they come off feed, and they have black, jelly-like, stools. Some die, some don't. I took one to the vet and couldn't get a diagnosis, but none of the traditional meds worked);
2. Bad batch/brand of food (I am unaware of any feed recalls at the moment, but I know that those feed recalls that have transpired have affected large numbers of dogs in certain kennels, rather dramatically. Usually, the affected feeds are of the "cheap kibble" variety, whose ingredients sources are less than top notch);
3. Bad neighbor (some neighbors poison dogs because they find the noise irritating ...)
4. Rat poison (oftentimes when people are treating for mice/rat problems in their barn/shed, the dying rats will stagger-out to where the dogs are, the dogs eat the rats, and the residual poison will kill the dogs).

Anyway, just off the top of my head, these are some common "reasons" why dogs can start dropping off in a kennel situation, for which the symptoms fall outside the "normal" way things go ...

I have had the dogs get into poisoned rats or mice and the ones I saw bled out the rear end prior to death. I had a coon hound out on trial that was returned in poor flesh took her to the vet and he said he thought she had gotten into antifreeze. She had lost a good amount of weight in a shot period of time, lithargic and extremly pale gums. My vet at the time was a coon hunter as well and he gave her a blood transfusion and said we would know by the next day. When I called she had made it through the night and she eventually made it through.

Our cocker has eaten a packet of D-Con two different times now. The first time we didn't know till a few days later. The last time, it was the same day. He had gone out and ate some grass and caused himself to throw-up and it happened to be on the concrete apron in front of the garage. I thought, humm, that is an odd colour (had some grass in it too), looks familiar. I looked around and the wife had left the door open into the utility room and there was the empty packet of d-con sitting on the floor beside the washer. Now, I like ole Max, but he's my wife's baby and I thought, "if he don't make it, I'm glad it was her that left the door open instead of me"(I had told her to always push the packet of de-con back under the shelf along the wall) . I give him a egg broke up on a bowl of milk, day and evening for 3 days. He acted a little tender in the belly for a few days but never past any blood and his gum colour stayed good. the next week he was back to his old self again. I told my wife he must be half cat, but don't push his luck again. :angel:

You got some bad stuff to kill a hound that quick!

Warddog, Pride 26/18 feed on sale till July 1st, $760. ton.
