Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
A couple more questions. Is Dingus the sire Of Branko's White Blizzard? And Or was an early Branko female bred to Dingus and that was the mating that help make the Branko line of beagles the winning-est line of beagles in modern beagle history. If anybody has any accurate info on this Dingus MacRae dog i would like to know the accurate facts.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
Ricky,
Dingus was the sire to Branko's White Blizzard. You can go to the Better Beagling board and ask some questions. This was done a few years ago and the responses were very interesting, unexpected and shocking. However he was in the field he left a positive inpact on future generations as there are many great lines that can be traced back to him.

im trying to get the Info about Dingus Macrae straight....Best i can figure at this point issssssss he was around in the 70's and must have passed- sometimes in the 70"s.And best i can tell If you Kenneling Branko dogs you likely to have some Dingus blood.I guess 1 of the thing i was trying to figure out was just "who" used Dingus blood and continued breeding dogs from D MacRae sired dogs and it Seems that of all Dingus Breedings The Branko Line have Proven there self in modern times.Having been a lifelong hunter myself,it is very important to me what todays beagles can accomplish in my hunting environment. I "think" info about dogs that are alive today in 2009 is very import, and its info about these modern day gun dogs that mayyyy be for the betterment of the hunting beagle. So if anyone has more info or corrections on my post i would sure like the info!

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
Lanesline has a strong bred line of Dingus, Wayne Gross breeds it strong, Eddie Frederick has keyed off of it. There is a guy in West Virginia cant remember his name, I think it is Mike Hatfield that has it and Hills Shake Rag Kennel in TN. Those are the strongest I know right off hand. Hope it helps.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
Dingus MacRae was born July 25, 1973. He lived to the early/mid 80’s. So it would be more like 25 years ago.
Branko Beagles did use Dingus MacRae “who was owned by Bob Nicoll” to breed to a female called Anna’s Ann. This created a litter “unmatched” by any other that I know of. Taking in consideration of not only what the pups in the litter accomplished, but what they produced as well. Dingus MacRae and Anna’s Ann were bred very similar, they both went back to Fish Creek breeding. Anna’s Ann was purchased from Geoff Montgomery, and she is the dog that you will see at the beginning of every Branko pedigree, but she was bred to a few males to start it all. Dingus MacRae, Winterborne Boomerang, Muskie Lake Levi & Money Sunk Trigger. The Dingus MacRae and Anna’s Ann cross produced: Branko’s White Blizzard, Branko’s City Streaker, Branko’s Close Call Girl, Branko’s Manitoba Man, and Branko’s Misty.
But as far as Dingus MacRae’s producing power and how he has influenced beagling, here are some other “pretty well known” dogs out of him: Macrae Little Pete , Dingus' Big Shot, Cane Country Jennie, Wyble Knob Ruben, The Elm's Mindy, Ozark Pepper, Sheena Macrae, Donna Rae Macrae, Smokey Macrae, Dingus Macraes Main Man, Flo-line Run Dotty Mcrae, Maple Hill Prospector, Bungalow Hill Gert, Bramlett's Deacon Macrea, Branko’s White Blizzard, Branko’s City Streaker, Branko’s Close Call Girl, Branko’s Manitoba Man, and Branko’s Misty… etc… Many people have used direct offspring of Dingus MacRae as the foundation of their kennels, others greatly enhanced their kennels with him. He was used on Hare and Cottontail hounds that were fast, medium and slower speeds, in order to put hunt, search and desire in their dogs. Some of the above dogs you may have heard of more or less, depending on which style of dog that you run or like.
Another thing about Dingus’ bloodline… he had some littermates that rarely get any credit:
Dutchfork Huntmaster, who produced well like Gay Blaze & Gay Annie.
Hunter's Little Annie, who produced well like Can FC Rabline's Little Orphan Annie.
Catskill Mountain Darby, who produced well like Am CH Scooters Buckeye, Can CH Scooter's Pete At Proudfoot, FC Scooter's Smokin Gypsy III.
Juniper Swamp Polly, who produced well like FC Roxline Cunningham's Butch.
Juniper Swamp Tess, who produce well like FC Bonefish Tom & Slow Joe Rielly.
Branko Beagles did a very wise thing, they took Anna’s Ann who was from a family of reproducers and bred her to a similar bred dog that was also from a family of reproducers. It is no wonder that they produced Close Call Girl & White Blizzard, who then produced dogs that basically changed beagling, like: Can FC Branko's Jack of All Trades, Can FC The Elm's English Bobby, Can FC The Elm's Jigs Maggie's Mate, Can FC Kingwood's Shorty, FC Camp Creek Glory… etc…
When I see topics such as “best producing dogs ever”, or something similar to it on these forums, I see some things in common. ¾ of the dogs mentioned have Dingus MacRae as a Sire, Grand Sire or have a pedigree where Dingus MacRae is in it multiple times. Dingus MacRae is one of or “the” least recognized dogs that has done the most for beagling that I know of.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
Was there any close connection of the "Northway" line to Dingus Macrae? I have several Dingus bred hounds and I am of the opinion you cannot find a more
solid rabbit dog in a lot of repects than this line and others closely connected to it. JMO. Thanks.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
dont have the pedigrees in front of me to be exact but if you look back in almost any Northern Bred hard running hounds you will always go back to Mt. Zion Pete. I think Dingus was a grandpup or a great grandpup to Pete and Northway Spur was very strong linebred Pete.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
He was supposedly an average to a little above average dog at best, according to the older beagle experts still around today. Not a world beater. He may have produced better than he was, but I wonder if good dogs today aren't really getting whatever qualities their breeders are breeding for from somewhere else in the breeding and attributing it to Dingus. Its been a while since I've had Dingus bred dogs but IMO I would say maybe that wierd squall/scream mouth comes from him. I have seen a lot of fair weather nosed dogs (not strong nosed dogs) from supposedly Dingus breedings. I also think he may have put some line control into his offsprings.
Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
I dont know what Quality of a Hound Dingus was,,I have always thought he must of been of High Quality judging by who s dogs pedigree he is in............But i will say this it is Possible for a Stud dog to create pups way better than his self repeatedly and amazingly! and with different bitchs
