I am seeking information regarding treatment options for a 5 year old female beagle that has either a slipped or herniated disk, 13 " 20 lbs.
Would also like to hear from any one that has personal experience with the recovery potential from this issue.

First off you need to take your dog to the vet and have x-rays done to find out how bad it is. Get your dog on steroids to reduce the swelling, the vet will start out with IV for 1 or 2 days, then go to pills once there is improvement, keep in small confined space only large enough to stand up turn around and lay down. Only gets to go out to go do his / her business on a leash no running around, no investigation, business and in the crate again (3 to 4 weeks) No climbing stairs, no jumping. 2nd get some buffered asprin and tagamet 1/2 asprin + 1/2 tagamet to releave pain and keep the stomach from being torn up.
We have one hound with this problem, he has reinjured his spine since the first time, when I noticed him having trouble with his back legs I put him in dog jail for about a month again. He is not able to go run but he is now the house dog, unless he finds it necessary to hurt himself again then will lock him out in the kennel till healed, knock on wood he is still able to have quality of life, but no hunting no playing with the other dogs, but he can run around in the back yard and pretend he is hunting and hold down the couch, watch TV with me and just be my buddy.
Sorry to hear this has happened to one of yours, and hope that yours recovery works out well.
