Re: Patch crosses for 2010
My plan , which is subject to change ;-) is to breed a couple females :
1- LRP Lucy ( Randall X Rhubarb ) X Jaybo ( Linus X Hope )
2- LRP Ruby ( Bossman X LELEWANA ) X Dobie ( Bossmans Brother )
Maybe 1 other female , depends on a couple things.
These are all 100% pure patch , with some line breeding going on , really tuff bitch's with some very nice males that have reproduced some good pups .
We will see as spring nears.

I Have two bitches, due to come in Jan, or Feb.
1- Shantillie Big Oaks Pach Hammer Time x Eberle`s HAMMERNPATCH Trixie
2-Lehner`s Blanchpatch Lehner`s Barney patch x Lehner`s Pearl Patch
Blanch will be be bred to my Pigeon Creek`s Agustas-patch Eberle`s Hammer`en Patch Casey x Eberle`s Hammer`en Patch Maggie.
Shantie ,either back to Gunner which is a full brother to Gus if I can get her to Ohio or Gus.I have had good reports about all the pups from Gunner.
These dogs can flat run a hare and swampers and cotton tails. Some times there rough as hell ,but haven`t took the back seat to any thing.
The pups are gonna be over the limit.
They are full patch.
I was just thankin that`ll change when Big head comes back down here

We made this cross on a patch female. McKee's Swampbottom Blizzard and Riverveiw Molly. Their pedigree's can be seen here. She had 8 and lost one.

Re: Patch crosses for 2010
I'm with you Red I like a 14 " male & 13" females , most all mine fall in that range and I try breeding for that , I know alot of the northern bred Patch's are bigger , I'd say it's a + in the heavy snow but down here in the south , thick under cover I think the 13" & 14" work real well and I have run with the bigger type & can't say we give up much in the way of foot , I'm sure their is a little differance but not much , mine to pretty well or they suit me with plenty of foot without the swinging & skirting. I'd like to have a place to do a little more swamper run'n thats where the show their stuff and the pups I sold to some up north they do it well on hare.
I got Bossmans full sister here now ( SR Patch Lucy ) thanks to SR , thats the other bitch I spoke of breeding in my 1st post here , if I get things worked out & breed her I plan on keep all the pups from her as well as my Ruby bitch out of Boss , atleast till I get'm run'n & pick a few from each litter for the future of my breeding program . Then possibly cross'n back to my Dobie male that is Bossmans full brother. Gonna get with Cuz and get his input and thoughts on some of this breeding , he's a vast knowledge assest and has helped me greatly , for that I'm thankful.

Re: Patch crosses for 2010
You won't have any size issues with SRP Lucy, she don't seem to have a big in her dna. I bred her to Buckshot, Horn and Taz and all puppies stayed down on size.
She has a good snow nose and goes hunting out the gate, has always been straight as Mike tried to breed them.
Since I took her down to Rod, I've lost Bubblegum, Charlie and Wheeler. Signing these papers over is like loosing another one
, hope you'll bear with me. I feel like a sentimental ole fool but I've lost some good old hounds the last few years and sometimes in pairs. Sleep ain't come easy and I've wrestled with this for weeks but I made the deal, I just gotta work through it.
Thanks for your understanding...

Re: Patch crosses for 2010
you sold or they died sr? cant tell by the post sry. either way that can be tuff i just lost my best dog not long ago i cant imagine loseing 2 at 1 time ,, that might make me get out.
Re: Patch crosses for 2010
I lost Bubblegum on the Island, went back up to look for her and met a fellow named Chris that hunts the East end for deer and bear. He said the wolf pack was on the east end and had most of the coyotes run out, said he had seen 3 of the wolves at Clear lake and north towards the inner lake chain #2. He said if Bubblegum wasn't at the south shore by the houses, she was most likely eaten or if lucky, at someones house off the Island, if a hound is found on the Island, there's a 99.9% chance of you getting them back cause that's the kind of people on the Island.
Wheeler and Charlie were a couple of old hounds I had, I had ran both of them the last cold snap we had and found them dead in the box the next day with a palm size patch of dark bloody stool past from both. There must have been some bleeding in the upper gi and infection set in. Other than acting a little sore, I saw nothing out of the ordinary when I put them up for the night.
The worst loss was when I lost Casey and Buckshot over a hot bitch. You know those aluminum wires they tie the chain link on the panels with? they're no good at keeping hounds separate over a standing bitch, they break them off and go at it. It was like 78' all over again when I got out of coon hunting, lost two good coon hounds over a hot bitch and that made me quit and coon was a good price too. It was my own fault then also, just makes you sick.
People say, why you keep to many hounds? Go take 4 good hounds out your kennel and put them in the truck, then go back to the kennel and look and say, "this is what I got left go on with", how bad you hurt'in now?
A man that's canning from his garden and keeping seed is a smart man, I say. You ever been left hungry?

whew s. r. thats some tuff stuf there ...make a man get out for sure .. the heart can only take so much .
if i followed your directions right now s . r . i wouldnt have nothing but 2 four month old pups. thats why i got the litter planned hopefully.
2 friends of mine just made a breeding i have to look at here close to the house both were full patch i just gotta look at the pedigrees ...so i got some up and comers and some pups and some future pups in the worrks so maybe i am in good shape if nothing happens to my oldest dog ..for a few yrs.
