Doghouse Doors

I am looking to put some kind of "doggie door" on the entrance to my doghouses to keep the wind out but dont want to use the cheap, thin ones that Lowes and Walmart sells. Does anyone have any suggestions were a guy could find some heavy duty ones to buy?

either find some old elevator belting or go to tractor supply and get it

I use 1/4" plexiglass. Go to your local hardware and get hinges that are used for glass doors on entertainment centers.
Have your plexiglass cut about 1/2" smaller than your door openning. Hinges clamp on the glass about an inch down. Drill 3/8 hole about an inch down on your openning and install the supplied bushings.
Never had any problems with these doors for years.

Please post a photo of it, would be interested in seeing how you have them set up. Do they spring back shut? Are the hinges spring loaded?

Try K9 kondo. I have them on my kennel and anyone that sees them is very impressed with them.

The hinges I use are not spring loaded but they are available . Gravity just holds the door down.
I will post some pics tomorrow.

Here are some pictures for you TC,in the first pic you can see the small black bushing that comes with the hinge. I drill my hole 1" in and 1" down. Just remember you want a press fit on your bushing or it will come out.

Thanks I was trying to understand how the hinges worked, that is a good idea you have there and much less costly as the doggy doors you can purchase and work the same. Do you have any troubles with them wanting to chew on the doors? I don't know how many doors I have gone through, but I believe it is because they flap. Using conveyor belt, and you know they see one little string on something and it is fair game to chew up.

Those hinges look like what is used on glass doors for entertainment centers. That is a GREAT idea! I can't imagine that plexiglass curling where a bored dog will get ahold of it and chew...

Been using these doors for years and have never had one chewed on, I even installed them on a few seneca houses.
Emery thats exactly what they are, hinges for glass doors on entertainment centers . You should be able to get them at your local hardware. Good luck, Dave

I use Scott dog doors, spring loaded and work fine. Google Scott doors.

My brother-in-law is a truck driver. He gives me old mud flaps. Just cut to size and attach to doorway with a hindge. Dogs don't chew (so far)

I did the same as the other post using the glass that you can get at lowes,I had it cut to fit and used regular hinges and just used metal screws that would barley go through the glass and it works like a charm,I use it on my puppy pen,One word though put some sort of angle around your door way cause they will chew around the opening.

DON'T USE A SWING DOOR THAT WILL SWING BACK & FOWARD-UNLESS IT WILL MOVE UP ABOUT 3"-4"-- what happens is if you use it for pups they will stick their heads out and they will keep pulling back they don't know to come on out --YOU HAVE LOST A GOOD PUPPY

my doors are flat sheet of 16x16 alum. spring loaded screen door hingle with a 2" 45 degrees dogs open them with ease --the door over lap the door opening a bout 2" on all sides ---you can get some road signs the county have taken down --cut to size and you might have to pound them flat
