My grandfather had fox hounds...my dad always took me rabbit hunting when I was growin up with 2 old dogs of his friends...Buddy and Bulger...seemed like we always killed the limit but rabbits were a lot thicker 20 years ago...then my uncle CPC got me into trialing when I was a freshman in HS and got me the fever hahaha

Got my start in beagling 45 yrs. ago when I heard someone advertize one for sale on the radio for $10.00 while on the way to school.Ilaid out of school went and bought him.took him straight hunting & killed 3 rabbits over him that day.Needless to say I was in hog heaven.

I have lived to hunt and fish and really aint cared about much else, call me selfish but I am a country boy and would rather be in the grave if it was any other way.I started out with deerhounds in Virginia when I was 15 years old and fell in love with a hound giving chase and the music they made, then I went to coonhounds for a couple years and I enjoyed it but it wasnt nothing like a pack screamin.I had foxhounds that I ran on a farm down the road from my house on reds all night long sometimes 3 nights a week.I had been rabbit huntin with my cousin when I was young but didnt rabbit hunt hard until I was in my late mid 20s.It was then I met Norman and started huntin with him and he had and still has just as good of a pack of rabbit gun dogs as you want.I hunted with him for years before deciding to get my own started while I still feed about 7 deerhounds.I love it because I can run my dogs right out of the kennel on the farm and when Im ready I pen them up.I have pu together a great pack in just 3 years.I think my knowledge of a hound and what it takes to have good ones is what has helped me in the rabbit dog world.I have 5 broke dogs that wont touch a deer and a 6 month old pup that is running as I type in my training pen.

The only one left in my family that still ran any dogs by the time I was old enough to go was my uncle. I remember him always having coon dogs and beagles but only beagles by the time I started to go with him. I would help him in the yard at his place and then come evening he'd grab a beagle and take me out for a little while. Sometimes we'd get a rabbit and sometimes not on our short little trips but I still remember his little female Taco.............she was a rabbit running little machine. I didn't get my own beagles until I was 25 when my brother in law started running beagles with a buddy of his. It was the memory of going with my uncle that kinda drew me back to it I guess and I've been doing in now for 5-6 years.

Got my start like most, as a child about 4 or 5 can remember my dad taking me out with him on our farm we lived on in Tennessee. Seemed we could always stay in the same place watching a crossing in the fenceline and thats where the rabbits always seemed to cross. Dad`use to let me carry a highpowered BB gun and I would shoot everytime he would shoot, he let me claim about half the killshots with that ol BB gun. Man those were the days. As I got older and we moved from Tennessee to Kentucky , I kinda got out of rabbit hunting and into sports and girls, but around 17 I started going some with one of my buddies and his Uncle who happened to be Rufus Stewart of Pine Mt. Beagles. Rufus always kept nice dogs and we always had a good time when I was able to go with them. After going off and coming back from college I purchased a couple of dogs from a fellow up the road and have been rabbit hunting since.

I, like just about everyone else, was taken by my father. Started going with him when I was 5. Loved the dogs, loved the hunting, loved being outside...still do.

If ya'll would like to read a little of my writings, here's a link to my website. I haven't updated it in a while, but I like to write about all this stuff. If you scroll down through you'll find some stories on rabbit hunting, beagling, small game hunting...even some deer hunting stories and such. Let me know what you think...but go easy on me ;) .

This may sound a little odd to some but this is how I got my start,My father used to talk all the time of his beagles that he used to help feed his family back in the early 40s when he was about about 18 years of age he went to the army and when he returned home the family had sold his dogs but still he talked of those dogs all my life, when I became a man I still would love to listen to my father talk about his hunting dogs but he never did get any more,In 2006 Dad passed away from cancer and 2007 I started to bulid my first pack still a work in progess but when I get to take them out I'd like to think that dad is enjoying the race!!
