Where are the Jobs
In Brazil:
Not surprising, but more corruption, glad handing, and shady deals from the Obama administration.
quote:
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.
quote:
The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.
Note: Brazil is one of the countries that refused to supposrt the boycott of Iran. Obama knows how to reward our friends.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 24166.html
Six months moratorium on drilling for in the Gulf. How convenient.
In addition, Obama nixed a deal made by a Wisconcin heavy equipment supplier who had agreed to sell India coal mineing equipment. Justification, the equipment would not be used for environmentally friendly purposes. Guess they will just have to buy their equipment from China or Russia, two other countries that can build that equipment. No wonder Putin and Obama are good buddies.

Re: Where are the Jobs
MORE B.S.
FULL QUESTION---- FULL ANSWER-FROM FACT CHECK.
This claim stems from a "preliminary committment" made back on April 14 by the board of directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. The bank intends to loan up to $2 billion to finance exports to the Brazilian oil company Petróleo Brasileiro S.A., known as Petrobras, over the next several years.
The e-mail is false on two counts.
A: The president had nothing to do with the loan, which the Export-Import Bank approved for Brazil to buy U.S.-made equipment and services.
The message falsely says the decision was due to an "executive order" by the president. No presidential order was required. Furthermore, none of President Obama’s appointees had joined the Ex-Im board at the time of the vote, which was unanimous, and bipartisan. The Ex-Im Bank states: "In fact, at the time the Bank’s Board consisted of three Republicans and two Democrats, all of whom were appointed by George W. Bush."
The message falsely claims that "we have absolutely no gain" from the loan. In fact, the loan is being made specifically to finance purchase by Petrobras of U.S.-made oilfield equipment and services. The mission of the Ex-Im Bank is to encourage exports by making such loans.
The bank’s chairman and president, Fred P. Hochberg, underscored the purpose of the loan during a trip to Brazil at the end of July:
Ex-Im Bank President Hochberg, July 29: I chose Brazil as my first international destination for good reason: Brazil is a powerhouse among South American economies and offers tremendous opportunities for U.S. exporters in many sectors. I want Brazilians to know that Ex-Im Bank has the will and the capacity to finance their purchases of U.S. equipment, products and services
Obama appointed Hochberg to the Ex-Im Bank on April 20, nearly a week after the board voted to approve the loan. He was confirmed May 14 and sworn in May 21.
The message claims that George Soros would "benefit most" from the loan, but that is also a baseless accusation. Soros is a favorite whipping boy of conservatives because of his early financial help to the liberal group MoveOn.org. And he is indeed a major investor in Petrobras, through his New York-based hedge-fund firm, Soros Fund Management LLC. But the hedge fund recently sold 22 million shares of common stock in the company (which carry voting rights) while buying 5.8 million shares of preferred stock (which is non-voting.) As reported by Bloomberg News, Soros reduced his stake in the company before any of the Ex-Im Bank’s promised loan has been dispensed.
There is some truth to the claim that China would benefit, but not much. Brazil recently agreed to export 200,000 barrels of oil per day to China in coming years. But that was in return for a loan by China of $10 billion, five times more than the U.S. Ex-Im Bank is lending to finance purchase of U.S. gear.
The Ex-Im Bank also would like it known that no loan has yet been made, and that the "preliminary commitment" could eventually result in either a direct loan or a loan guarantee. Either way, the Ex-Im Bank states, "no taxpayer dollars are involved." The bank is self-sustaining.

Re: Where are the Jobs
PMB, I don't understand your post becase you completely missed the point. The money and jobs are going to Brazil under this administration, where's the regulation, where's the job creation here. Where's you democrat majority at stopping this and creating those jobs here.
Re: Where are the Jobs
Ms Pelosi said that Unemployment Compensation is the best means of creating jobs. Of course those rider amendments that she has attached to the UC Bill are more borrowing and spending.
The jobs keep dwindling and the Gov't keeps spending.
Obama's plan to bring America to third world staus is working.
How was it that Time Gietner, Treasury Secretary, said it? We will have to be content with someone else leading the civilized world.
Maybe that is why they are investing in Brazil and passing on the jobs to China and Russia. They will need somwhere to hide once caos breaks out here.

Re: Where are the Jobs
I only run one little house hold but it seems to me, you have to have business producing and expanding to have job (they are not).
For Gov to create jobs requires more spending. (which your against)
Before the crash, it was said each family was at 125% expenditure. Meaning, we had to spend everything we make + 25% borrowing to remain at the level we were at. Right now, the leveraging is at 122%, we've got a ways to go yet.
It is at a "hold out" game right now. There is tough decisions to be made. The American people have been robbed, debit is out the roof, business is waiting for more tax breaks that the Gov., States, and local communities can't afford.
I'd like to know who cashed the checks on the derivatives (cds/cdo's), they have all the monies.
I'd like to see the anti-trust laws enforce,... no hard decisions made until the cronies can't cover each other's backs and the Co's. boards are accountable to the share holders.
Showing real signs of deflation...

Oh My GOD...what a statement.
If I could I would type VERY SLOWLY so it could be understood...you and others here still don't have a grasp on one basic, simple concept....ahem....GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HAVE ANY MONEY OF ITS OWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For "government" to "create" a job it first has to TAX the American People...BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE MONEY OF ITS OWN.
You people are under the impression that government has a bank account, that it produces goods that people buy and trade for...its NOT a business. Government does NOT create jobs, they take money from someone to give it to someone else. Its the only thing they are really good at....I just love hearing how government cannot AFFORD a tax cut...as if government is actually paying a tax cut instead of reducing the amount it steals from citizens.
For the love of all thats good, Pelosi NOW says that UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS are the BEST AND QUICKEST way to CREATE JOBS...you gotta be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!
UNREAL

The 1st amendment allows the usual liberal narcissistic "I think.." which is how they start all their sentences.
The second amendment protects us from implementing "I think"

Tony.
Stop and take a breath!!! put a bag over your head, your hyperventilating or something...
Do you realize the energy you just wasted typing all that... your hearing things that were never said...turn off fox news and go out get some air...
Hope your dad is doing well...
As I said, I only run a little house hold, I hold no debt, conservatism is my middle name...
I recognize a crisis for what it is...You have to work through the Doctors hypocritical oath first.

Re: Where are the Jobs
Nah Charles, I type somewhere around 60 wpm so it didnt take very much energy or time at all...just galls we when people act as if government actually has money of its own...I want to bitchslap every politician I hear (republican and democrat alike) say that GOVERNMENT cannot AFFORD a tax cut...
Thanks for asking about my dad...he has had it pretty rough lately, heart blockage to go along with his newly diagnosed diabetes, then a lingering blood clot in the leg to go along with the arthritis...no easy horses for a fella who rarely ever got sick in his life...
At some point you democrats are going to HAVE to stop blaming BUSH for everything wrong in this country...I notice he never gets credit for things done right. Imagine that.
As for Fox News, yeah its no secret that MOST conservatives watch it...would you really suggest that a conservative watch MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, or NBC????

Re: Where are the Jobs
Man sometimes I get a good laugh at some of these posts. The government only creates government jobs off the backs of tax payers, Bush did it and Obama is even worse. Buinesses/employers create jobs, the government creates an enviroment where buisnesses hire, grow, expand etc.
Everytime I hear someone say stop watching fox news I think to myself HHMMM is that the best you can do because someone has a different opinion than you, how about some verifiable facts to support your position.
The oil spill is in federal waters, someones yard isn't. No doubt BP has responsibility for the spill but the government inspects /regulates the industry, they have just as much responsibilty.
When you allow people or companies to take sort cuts and they do what you allowed, when something goes wrong one is just as quilty as the other.

Re: Where are the Jobs
Naw, i watch alittle bit of all the news. You know what they say about "keep your enemies closer", i try to see where each side is coming from, so you gotta endure the hype to understand their reasoning.
In one way, the Gov has a checkbook, it's called our National debt. they set up a loan account with Fed. and our writing the checks on the future.
There was a time just 15 short years ago when Utilities trusted each other and helped one another when in need. Now, they ream and gouge each other at every unfortunate circumstance and in the end, there are no winners and the rate payers are the big losers.
I just wonder at what point we get away from the babbysitter and start doing the right responsible thing because we're adults, trying to provide a service and not just making a quick buck. Maybe we need this pain to make us grow up?
In one way, the Gov has a checkbook, it's called our National debt. they set up a loan account with Fed. and our writing the checks on the future.
See, i don't understand this...you want Gov smaller and out of your hair, but then turn around and say, 'I'm not gonna do the responsible thing and unless they make me, I'm gonna play Russian roulette with what I've been intrusted with",... just make no sense to meWhen you allow people or companies to take sort cuts and they do what you allowed, when something goes wrong one is just as quilty as the other.

Here again, you have to be careful, It could also be the Gov. fault if they let business grow and inflate too much.the government creates an enviroment where buisnesses hire, grow, expand etc.

Re: Where are the Jobs
Obama still creating jobs. Unfortunately they are not in the USA.
Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. is pulling its Ocean Endeavor rig out the Gulf of Mexico and shifting it to Egypt.
The Houston-based contract drilling services company has been awarded a contract from Burullus Gas Co. SAE valued at about $100 million, which includes a $31 million early termination fee paid by the previous operator of the rig.
The contract will end on June 30, 2011, according to Diamond Offshore (NYSE: DO).
“With new contracting severely restricted in the Gulf as a result of the uncertainties surrounding the offshore drilling moratorium, we are actively seeking international opportunities to keep our rigs fully employed,” company President and chief executive officer Larry Dickerson said in a statement. “We greatly regret the loss of U.S. jobs that will result from this rig relocation.”

He does keep the Justice Dept Lawyers employed. They are so busy they can't be sparred to answer why the charges were dropped in the voter intimidation case vs the New Black Panther Party.

Re: Where are the Jobs
Newt if the american people don't get involced and hold these supposed to be leaders and representatives of the people accountable for their actions and their conduct theres going to be NO jobs and I fear only a reminance of the country left. People have become as bad as the politicians, NO principles. They bad mouth one party for what they are doing and turn around and support the other party doing the same things or even worse, again NO principles just party alliance. The people have themselves to blame for where the country is because of electing (charisma over character).
You take obama for instance, he the least experienced, most corrupt president in history and still has a 45% approval rating after buying votes, offering positions to candidates not to run, trying to fill his own vacated senate seat, filing charges against an american state on behalf of illegals, not persuing charges against the black panthers for voting intimidation, accusing police of racial profiling without evidence, killing jobs and the economy with his policies and I could go on and on yet he still has 45% approval and those people can't tell you anything he's accomplished for the good of the country.
Imagine he was chosin by the majority over a decorated U.S. war hero. Kinda telling isn't it.

Re: Where are the Jobs
Both parties are corrupt. One of the Republicans introduced a bill to balance the budget. His own party would not support the bill.
No one can make me believe that Bob Dole and John McCain were the best two candidates the Republicans could find to run for President. I respect McCain for his military service but I never liked his politics. He is Progressive Light. He was against controlling the border until he was seriously chalanged for his Senate seat. He saw the direction the political wind was blowing, turned 180 degrees, and started yelling follw me.
Did you notice the Republican senatorial candidate, who lost in the primary in Nevada is now making negative comments about the lady who is running against Senator Reid. Who could be worse than Reid, Pelosi, and Obama?
Senator Graham, of South Carolina, who, IMO,has been about as undependable as McCain and Spector is now attacking the Tea Party.
