A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)

Like I have always said from the very first arha hunt I went to , the mouthing idiot will win 95% of the time. Reason being is you will have judges scoring mouth more than work.
As far as handling the situation at hand scratch all dogs involved and send in report to arha. easy as that. Who the heck is fighting this scenerio.
This is a true story, Me and Tony Kildow were judging a round at the little world, dogs were running a rabbit and it crossed the road, dogs made it across the road and dogs scattered everywhere but there is only two dogs that shut up when they broke down other three were just running and barking every where. I had the line on the rabbit and scored white collared dog with the check, when the race was over on that rabbit I read the scores to the cast members, two guys argued with me for scoring that check because they said their dogs never shut up, said it wasnt a check situation. lol
Not that that has anything to do with this story, just thought it was funny. Just because a dog is barking dont always believe what its doing.

Sorta off subject but sooooooooo many ask how much mouth they give. My response----enuff. I never have fed and or endorse a hound thats loose mouth, they will die of lead posioning, others bred for it and do well with it.As for me and my dogs "Tight is right" .Bark when its up and or jumped, fine line most never have the sense too see. Big nose ok, Loosed Lipped---=====Dead Dog. I have watched a Big Name Judge score a hound for 20 mins and it had notta.Absolutly nothing. It won the hunt.BS. ................You can chase em all day, if ya dont know what ur doing then sit back and learn.Just saying

I like to run some in all the formats, but some are running down the ARHA when I have seen dogs run deer in the AKC and they didn't scratch them. What is the difference? I have also seen dogs in the AKC that were mouthy and the didn't get picked up, none of the formats are perfect and never will be.
Not too be a smartazz bobby but i can make 5 dogs rch before i make 1 dog a fc. As far as deer runs, ur right silly rule, i just get tickled when everyone from arha says soon to be fc without any problem, yea right. Little harder than it appears, Arha Little Brother-----Akc---Big Brother. Not only do u have to beat the dogs but also the judges in LP.Most have eiether left lp ,quit or went to midwest, very few cross dressers left.

Jimmy I agree it's easier to make an ARHA champion than it is an AKC FC, some of that has to do with the number of hunts available in ARHA. I don't agree that everybody has left ARHA when there was about 700 dogs entered in the world this year. Like I say I'm not trying to ring the bell for any organization. I have seen judging that I didn't like in all of them, I don't think it will ever be flawless as long as there is people involved. No matter what trial format we run in we have to take a little bitter with the sweet. Like we both have always said the best test of a dog is to gun hunt with him.
There is flaws in each and every format...I think a lot of it comes down to common sense when ur judging...If I were gun hunting and a situation like the spoken of above happens What would I do?? If I thought the dog needed a good beating while gun hunting then I'd probably scratch the dog during a competition...
Its all situational...IMO ARHA should have a judging seminar similar to that of AKC to get all the judges on a level playing field...
And there are mouthy dogs and deer runners in both of these formats...ya just gotta have a judge that's intelligent and confident enough to weed em out and advance the right dog(s)
My understanding is a 2 day old fawn has no scent and could not survive in the wild. I was not in that cast at the Ky houndsman hunt, but my understanding is the deer was never ran, the dog just bayed it. I dont know how that could be considered off game or a deer running dog. Just my opinion, if it dont have no scent. In my opionion thats why dogs cant run baby rabbits cause there aint no scent.

Wethington's Faggot Organization, that is what WFO stands for right? Do you know anybody like that? cuz if we had any common sense we wouldnt be running these dogs, see you at the next hunt lmao

Ur right Bobby, ahra is still rolling big entries, I believe its due too the fact that new people are coming in and older falling out or quitting, as u very well know u dont judge u dont win, how many times that been said? Ya gotta kiss a little bit of azz in every format, but i would rather kiss 1 akc or 2 judges in 1 day than kiss 5 rounds of arha judges over a week. I dont want to pee anyone off but u know and i know what it takes, it aint all dog power. Its lots and Lots of handshakes and hanging or judging, i this point i would rather spit than swallow. Just Saying.

Hey Jimbo I heard you did alot of swallowing and spitting while you were in this organization lmao lol aint that right Bobby? lol
the juddge has a room to look at the situation and make a call based on his/her experience. The rules state persue, so if a pack or single dog stumbles onto a fawn, or any other sort of new born game the judge has to take all factors into cosideration. The last thing i'm going to do is scratch a dog. It has to be clear cut, no debate that the dog is persuing deer before i hammer down judgement that sends the dog home. When in doubt or if i can NOT clearly see what has happened the benifit of the doubt willl always favor the dog. I dont like deer runners, but I do know that if you have a deer runner you will spend time following it over several hollars to catchem...no way to dispute what the where persuing when that happens.
I would call dead track handle dogs and move out of the area and re-cast. New borns should not be factored in to any of these rules. They are helpless and just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
