Sangamo breeding

Post by Big Dog »

I have seen this kennel name and have seen a couple of these dogs run. I am trying to find out whether they are AKC or not and who breeds and runs this line, and also what the breeding is behind the line. Any help will be appreciated.

BD,

Marshall Conway and his wife of Illinois are the owners of Sangamo Kennels. If I'm not mistaken his breeding is a spin off of Sangamon Ridge Kennels owned by the Eades family in Illinois. Mashall has done some very nice outcrossing and then linebreeding with his dogs. I don't have his number but I'm sure some of the guys in Ill can get it for you.

Jeff Kissinger has a dog from the same crossbut different litter as the rick rack dog that won the world. Her name is Sangamo Black Angel and she looks just like Rick Rack. She is in the Hall of Fame you can see her name on theARHA website under Hall of Fame hounds and I don't think these dogs are AKCregistered though.

Yes Nate, you are correct. I also think that Sangamon Ridge Slick that Ron won with on the bench at the world hunt is related to the Rick Rack dog.

Big Dog,

I know Sangamo's Brandons Stormy is out of 2 outstanding Rabbit dog. Sire is LP Dual Grand HOF Bramlett's Black Hawk. Dam is: LP GRC Brandon's Lightfoot. I believe Stormy is the sire of Rick Rack & Angel.
Stormy himself is a LP Dual Grand. I also believe he is in the hall of fame.

Not sure about AKC...But I dont think so.

Here is the Conways Info

Thanks for the info guys, I have judged slick two different times and he is a pretty nice hound and a real good looking hound too. I was hoping they were AKC as I was thinking about using them as an outcross, but it seems as though most folks think they are only NKC registered. I guess that is proof that papers don't run a rabbit, because everyone that i have seen out of that line has been pretty tough, especially the rick rack dog.

Bramlett's Blackhawk is AKC Reg. I don't know about Brandon's Stormy.

Brandon's Lightfoot was a force back in the day, also a very good looking dog. She too is from Illinois, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if she's AKC. She produced exceptional dogs when bred to Sebree's Black Jack. I think almost everything out of those crosses made Champion.

I saw Stormy run in the opening round at the Grand National a few years ago when it was in TN. I was handling a dog for Walker Bros. Kennel. He was awesome. I picked him to win the hunt, he did. Nice dog.

Sangamon dogs are not AKC registered because the owners of Sangamon Ridge Kennels were the people who started up the ARHA/NKC so that is the reason they are not AKC registered. All their dogs are ARHA/NKC registered. I just recently bought a female pup that is Sangamon top and bottom. She is 17 weeks old. She opened up on her first rabbit last week. I am pretty pleased with her. She is almost all red with just a little white on her face and feet. I would insert a picture of her, but haven't seemed to be able to figure out how to do that.

For those that don't know, Sangamon Ridge dogs go back to a dog out of Bredemiers Kennel, Barefoot King Patch. He came directly from Willet Randall. If I'm not mistaken King Patch won 35 trials consectutively in a variety of formats.

Like senior citizens in our society, when they get old and feeble minded we put our seniors away in homes, visit them once in a month of Sundays and forget about them. All the time forgetting that they are a wealth of knowledge and experience. With all the guys that run patch hounds I've never seen him mentioned. While his track record alone speaks for itself.

Barefoot King Patch was out of a Yellow Creek female of Bill Bredemeir Sr & a Patch male named Barefoot Blaze Patch who was out of Hatchetman Sport , a Patch male that came from Mike Yates stud Willet R Patch JR .
King was only half Patch. A guy in Illinois by the name of Stevenson still has a little of the Patch half of this blood. King did win a bunch of trials & produced many a champion. Only reason I know anything about his heritage is back in 87, I went to see him run & bought a couple pups out of him & quized Mr. B on his history. I am not trying to be Mr. Correction but he didnot come directly from Willet Randall. The reason Cappozio took the Patch name off the market is because of all the Bredemeir dogs using the name Patch & were heavy with Yellow Creek / Pearson Creek blood but still named Patch. I do know King was a heck of a producer & most of his offspring were natural trash free, have seen that in person.
I believe Sagamon Ridge Gracie was direct out of him, if I am not mistaken.
I crossed some of the Patch blood I got from Elmer back in the 80's with this King blood & they were very good hounds. Only problem I had with them was a little mouthy on frost, but all else was stylish.
