Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
LOl. I am able to hunt more during the summer because I get off at 5:30. The only trials I have been to in over 2 years have been on Sunday. Spring is my killer. Can't get off work in time to hunt. All of our trials are on Sundays. I didn't shoot a single rabbit this year, and Sunday hunting would not have changed that.
The Northway female (Fancy in Lace?) has a home for life. We just bred her to Dexter's White Hussler male (she is actually still there). But i can't blame a man for asking lol

Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
Okay, I am going to jump in here. Why would you not want the be able to hunt on Sunday? If you do not want to hunt on Sunday then don't, but why have a law that says nobody else can either? It makes no sense to me. Sounds like a way for antis to cut into my hunting time and feel like they are saving animals lives.

Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
Take time to read the Word of God and you will find your answer. It applys to everyone!!!! We can believe it or not, except it or not, recieve it or not, but it still want change it. This has nothing to do with gun laws it has everything to do what this country was founded upon. This country was not founder upon what makes us feel good. It was founded upon faith in Jesus Christ, not ali, budda or any other idol even rabbit hunting and running dogs.We can make anything an idol and make it our God. We as a country need to get back to faith and thats to remember this holy day and keep it seperate and consencated to worship of God and rest. That is all Im saying. We wonder what has happened to the country, Ill tell what has happened. We let them take prayer out of schools and public scripture reading out. They dont want the 10 commandments in school and even sader prayer and scripture reading does not take place in the home. Its so sad that some would rather here the voice of hounds more the the voice of the GOD ALMIGHTY. Now if you dont like this, you dont have to, but i dont have to take a back seat and say nothing at all either. oNCE YOU HAVE BEEN TOUCHED by the masters hand your never the same. Jesus loves the world and wants to save the world. When a person gets saved they dont see things the way they once did. You go ahead and do your thing and Ill do my best to do God's will on Sunday and Monday-Saturday. I have found in 25 years of beagling that most hunters are God fearing people. I think we should just act like it. The country is on a liberal slope that is very slippery and even God fearing people, good people dont even relize they are helping the country down this path. Just look at the decline of the country in the last 20 years. This is resent history. We need a change and not an obama change. A change that will only be brought on by revival of our faith in Christ as a country. Its time to pray not play. Many have bled and died for this and we take it for granted, This is no place i dont think to talk about this unless you want to and trust me i can really talk about it.I should be dead and because of the Lord im here typing this stuff. Ive faced death 2 times and Jesus brought me through it when the Dr.'s gave up so I no he is real and he is more than a story or some urban legend. This post was about ticks in virginia in such cold weather. Lets get back on the subject. Everyone have a good day. Lets keep it real. Thanks-MAC

Gunslinger I am glad you are still with us and I apreciate your passion about this however I would like a chance to respond to your comments.
I do read the word of God, and keep His day, and try to live my life according to His will for me. I can also keep His day, listen to His word, read His word, share in His word, and go hunting with my firends and family all on the same day.
I do think these laws are about anti-hunting. What other hobbies are against the law on Sunday, shooting pool, bowling, basketball, baseball. Can you imagine if you could not go out in your backyard and play catch with your son or daughter on Sunday? I appreciate your opinion but I think it is naive to think that this is a law to help everyone get religion.
I can tell you feel strongly about this so lets agree to disagree.
feel free to PM me is you want to discuss further.
This may have been a good topic to have last Wednesday to get everyone to log on.

i see your point of view. i am a BIG 2nd admendment advacate and i see what your saying. i can tell in your last post you see where im coming from as well. As long as we are keeping ourself in the same general direction that is all that matters. I think we should have this right, because this is americia. Land of the free and home of the brave. Thank God we can even have this debate because anywhere else this conversion could not even begin to happen. thanks and happy hunting and have a good day.

Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
Im gonna get this thread back to what it was originally about... I found a tick on me and one on my dog today here in Middle TN. Not happy about this AT ALL! I thought with the above average cold winter we had here that it would have reduced the tick problem this coming summer, but I guess Im wrong. I can't remember the last time i had ticks on me in Feb....great...

Haven't seen a tick yet, but did see a black snake yesterday while hunting! The sun was out and it has been spring like for a few days but it is going to cool back down a little this week.

Eat two cloves of garlic everyday starting now and you won't have any ticks stick you after a week.
if you don't like the smell, eat the pickled garlic as it doesn't leave a smell on you that you can smell or a taste in your mouth.
Works even better on mosquitoes.

I started treating my dogs already for ticks. Found one in Jan here in Central Pa, and it was a very cold January this year. If they are out in single digit temps, imagine what spring will be like. "shivers"

John, Does that really work or is that just an old wives tale? Because I might be heading to grocery store for some pickled garlic if it is true. Maybe can get dogs to eat it too. I know they say to feed it to horses to keep flys away but I never noticed it working too well.

Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
April,
I like to kid folks and pull legs, but not on things like this. It works and my family which is large all do this and many others.
I used to LP trial some and at a trial in Tennessee all around me were picking off ticks and my sons and I didn't have a one stick. They of course will still get on your clothes but not stick.
Regularly I'am around folks fishing, ballgames, etc at night and folks swatting mosquitoes and there we sit with none biting us. They do still fly around you but only a few will land and then quickly fly off.
Try it, worse that can happen is you will enjoy the garlic in your salad. Most old wives tales are the truth. Folks depend on the modern pharmacy way too much and there is so much they can't do and don't even try! You should hear the discussions between me and my Auburn graduated Pharmacist daughter-in-law and see what she mixes up for folks and dogs today.

Re: TICKS IN FEB. IN VIRGINIA
I don't know about the pill.
April,
You mentioned horses. Think why did they did they say garlic works for them? My family has quarter horses. Why do Bots not get in horses that take certain meds or natural stuff that's been in use for 1000 of years. Modern chemical extract is worm medicine like Equimax?
it is because it gets in their blood and skin and the bot flies won't lay their eggs on that skin so no bots.
Now, use Equimax or anything else that has the same meds to worm your dogs that keep away the bot (wolf) fly and it will also keep away ticks and fleas, especially ticks. Sure beats spraying or rubbing in something.
This is the month I start.
