7 way shot with just bred female

Post by lananbay »

Did I take a gamble?? Guys I just purchase a female out of state when the dog transporter went to pick up her up she just came in heat she was over 1/2 way to the dog I wanted to breed her too so I had the shipper take her there she was bred 3 times in a one week period skipping every other day after the 3 rd breeding the breeder called for the shipper to pick her up. The shipper and I notice it had been 2 yrs since her last shot. I know your not suppose to give a female carrying pups a shot we had the female taken to the shippers vet 1 hr from the breeders house the morning after the final breeding. The vet was aware that she was she bred the last several days & gave her a 7 way shot plus a rabies shot before she was shipped to me. Does anyone think that the 7 way shot or rabies shot will abort the breeding in any way was the shot given soon enough into the breeding??
Thanks for ant info

I personally would not have given the shot. You may not get a litter

I am going to make the assumption that the Vet was informed that the female had been bred. The Vet then gave her the shots, so that's good enough for me, it must be safe.

Chances are you will be fine BUT,it really is not a good idea to give shots when a bitch is carrying pups especially if some of the fractions in the vaccine are the "live" type as opposed to the "killed'.I don't really know about how the vaccine might affect the sperm / eggs at the time of fertilization.Probably a good question to run by your vet.Good luck.

Lananbay, it depends if your shots were a “killed” or “Live” Vaccines.

Live viruses like to replicate in rapidly dividing cells, they will tend to preferentially infect tissues where cells are dividing quickly. This includes the dividing cells of fetuses. “Live vaccines” have the potential to cause birth-defects, abortion, deformity and stillbirth and are contraindicated in pregnant bitches & can in rare cases damage the fetus permanently.

A “killed Vaccine” is unlikely to cause disease or harm in pregnant or newborn pups.

Killed vaccines are vaccines comprised of whole viruses which have been inactivated "killed". They are unable to replicate in the body of the animal and unable to cause disease in the animal, but they contain all of the viral and bacterial antigens on their surface that the immune system needs to recognize in order to protect the dog against future encounters with disease causing organisms.

Some breeders will give their bitch a “killed” vaccine shot on her first day of heat and by the 9th day comes and breeding begins, the killed virus has ran its course and the boosting of the immune system has begun.

A “live virus” is never to be given to a sick dog, a dog with any kind of infection or a pregnant or due to breed female.

I guess the first thing you need to do is to find out “quickly” if your female shots were “Live” or “Killed” Vaccines. If any were "Live", I would get your dog to a vet as soon as possible.

Hope This Helps
