Darrin i would like to have AKC OR ARHA,but i don't know what the biggest demand is but i would like to have it where it would draw all you guy's down to join in, but i guess it's mostly up to the club. I posted flyers today at all sporting goods places today, and feed stores, seem to draw alot of interest from alot of people there at them places. I'M just seeing if there is going to be enough interest around here to get it going, if so i guess we will decide then. What your suggestion?

Thanks
Donnie

Donnie, I have never helped start a new club but I am a member of a beagle club here in NC and know that it is not an easy undertaking to get a club up, running and established. However, it can be done with some elbow grease and rolled up sleeves. The AKC runs so many different federations that it can be confusing to someone not familiar with their different trials. United Beagle Gundog Federation, Mid-America Brace, Deep South Gundog Federation, Mid-West federation, etc, etc,. all preferring a certain "style" of hound. Most of these federations run under the "SPO" banner, so the term "SPO" could be anything from medium-slow hounds to the faster, harder hitting Mid-West type hounds, depending upon what federation the club belongs to. A new AKC club would need to know the direction it wished to head. ARHA runs basically Little Pack and Progressive Pack. LP is for the faster, harder-hitting hounds and PP is for the medium to upper-medium hounds that work a closer line. ARHA also has some Big Pack trials along with Gundog Pack, which are not near as popular. Geez, a guy could go on for hours about the varying formats and styles so I'll stop there and say for myself, I prefer ARHA Little Pack trials. I like their scoring system better among many other things. To be a successful club, I guess you would need a tally of what the core members of the new club would want in their trials.

Donnie,
I'm from Jamestown, but live in McMinnville, now. You've mentioned a couple of times about the closest club to to you. You are fortunate in where you live if you decide on Little Pack in the ARHA and I know that your friend, Bopeye has Syrus McGee dogs. There are clubs in Albany and Monticello in KY and clubs in Loudon, McMinnville, Watertown, and Estill Springs, TN, all less than two hours from you. That is close in this business. I would like to do some Progressive Pack trialing, but the closest club is probably Dyersburg in West Tennessee, four hours away. And that is the closest club.
IMHO, the first thing you need to do is visit the club in Cookeville and some of these LP clubs. The club in Cookeville is SPO-UBGF, and run a medium speed dog. I know a few of their members and they are some good guys. You'll find a lot of Buzz Bomb, not many Syrus dogs there. They run a medium or slower speed with great line control. The LP clubs will run a faster dogs with a lot less line control. Trying to get all locals will have you with no experience in your club, dogs that fit in different formats of trialing, and no judges.
In Little Pack, you need 15 members to start up a club. All of the LP clubs mentioned above probably don't have 6 local members. When we started the McMinnville club, we had 18 charter members. Two were from this county and 12 were licensed judges. They were members of other clubs. If you decide on LP, these same people will join your club and help you get started. You won't have any problem getting 20-25 members.
There are several things you need to be working on, no matter what affiliation you decide on-get a club house, find 12 to 15 running grounds, develop a charter, learn the rules, start working on your certification as a master of hounds and judge. You will find that a half dozen will do all the work, a bunch will show up for hunts, and a different half dozen will do all the complaining. Just me humble opinion.

thanks darrin most locals run spo but i would like to have arha, but we wil see thanks for the info.

ted i also say thanks for the info, i think you you got me mixed up with bopeye i have all the sy blood, branko's and sock it to me, in my kennels, bopeye only has maybe 2 hounds at this time, only 1 has sy blood and it's in my kennel now.
yes there is is gonna be some sweat involved i see, and alot of work involved, but i believe it can be done depending on the interest here.
What is the average membership fee and how much land is needed to have for a club minimum to maximum.

Thanks all
Donnie
