Heating a Dog Shed

i hear alot of you talk about frozen water bowls.i use heated water bowls from tsc and dont know why anyone would wanna deal with frozen water bowls every day.as for heating,all my hounds are in houses with straw and never had a problem.but i could see how some in colder climates would need to heat.

Exactly what I do too...heated water buckets from TSC and one of my pens has several females in it, they lay together in straw filled houses and share heat from each other...in that pen I use a submersible heater dropped in a huge plastic decorative pond...works fantastic as long as you keep the water level OVER the heater...

I absolutely agree with Buck. A dog heating and cooling cycles will make them sick just like a human. I fill the boxes with straw and double or triple the dogs up and they stay plenty warm. When we have nights above 30deg. (rare) I will leave the single in each box , in the mornings when i let them out you can see where they have slept in front of the door because they are to warm further back in the box.

I have 40watt lectro heated dog beds in all three of my boxes, with heated water bowls. I havnt froze one yet and havnt had a problem with sick dogs. Its -9 degrees here right now. with a 25 mph wind. I wouldnt feel right not giving them something to stay warm.
