Is it legal ??

I have been asked for a license during the open season while running dogs w/out a gun here in MI, when I asked the CO if I legally needed it the answer was yes because the season was open. Another time I called the DNR in Indiana to find out what was needed to run down there as we could not run here, I was told no license needed. I bought one anyways and the first time down I was checked and when I told the CO about the call he said they were wrong and he would have gave me a ticket. Laws on top of laws can create confusion and different people interpret them not always the same.

i do know that if we are not allowed to run in your state , you cannot run in ours , i called the athens office a couple years ago and ask the same question and was told if you are not caring a weapon you are not hunting and therefore no licence was needed , the problem is the term pursueing game , everyone interprets it differently , one game warden interprets it one way and another sees it completely different , same as the office people do and the ones who wrote the law , to much gray area

Steve W. and Dog: Absolutely correct. We have CO's up here that don't know diddle. That is why I always carry the Director's memo in my pocket. It is probably best to buy a license then you aren't harassed. May try that myself. I like messing with the CO's though. Don't like all the laws either.

Here in MO, you need a huntin license to run your dogs- in or out of season....
