Just curious, is there away to look up how many dogs were registered in each registry in the past year or so? I'm barred from ARHA, but that's fine I mainly just gun hunt and run dogs for fun anyways hit a PKC trial every now and then. As far as I'm concerned ARHA brought a lot of this on their self, when Del Morgan made the comment he didn't care if they never had another field trial event. That spoke volumes to me why he shouldn't be the owner. Oh well have a nice day, time to go run a dog.

its all about edges, if i do this, will you do that. i have seen my share of judging in the adverse condition. i think some of you guys are hitting the nail on the head and are true leaders in this organization. i have always said anyone that will run a club has ton's of dedication for or cause and our hounds. people get cloudy judgement and should listen to others in time cause all of you guys know there's more than one way to skin a rabbit, no matter which side of the blade your cutting. i do believe that from the top if your not running a sanction club in nkc that you shouldn't hole a office in the organization. running clubs day to day no matter how small keeps you in touch with the reality of the cause and the people in it. just my pennies worth.
let honesty run through the veins of each and every judge at each and every trial at each and
every format.

Ya know years ago before the internet, when ya got Buddy judged no biggie we all judged it was just a matter of time. Now ya get screwed or think ya did you get on here and vent it out . Right or Wrong its the plain hard truth, these days its easier not to judge for fear of somebodys fillings getting bruised and bringing on here. Rufus is right to a certain point . I honestly believe there is a ton of judges that just plain dont know dogs but however they halfway know the rules and add or take away as seen fit. Its awfully easy to say "I Missed it or i didnt see it sorry" They have just covered all the bases. The End. There is however some top shelf judges that know hounds and the rules, So whats one too do? Take a chance and roll the dice in Little Pack or Follow ur type judge in Akc. There not all Bad. Piece of Advice though. Just cuz a dogs Barking Does not mean they should be Scoring . ;)

I really think the majority of judges do their best to score what they feel is right. I think that most of time when someone thinks they are cheated it is because the judge doesn't know dogs, doesn't know the rules, values a different style of dog, or a combination of all three.

And, I will take an old judge that knows hounds any day. I will tolerate what he misses to get someone that knows what he is looking at. Maybe my judgement is clouded because I am an old guy that still tries to help out when he can, but experience can only be earned by worn out boots.

So true! So true! And when the judge doesn't minus a dog that deserves it, he is cheating the other 4 dogs and their owners.

Anyone that thinks declining entries is due to poor judging wasn't around back when ARHA was first started. Believe me, bad judging didn't just start yesterday. :)

If you don't trial, I can guarantee you will miss out on the chance to meet some of the best people you could ever meet in your life. I can't tell you how many people trialing has allowed me to meet. Almost everyone that I consider a friend, I met at a trial. I can't say enough about how many great people I have met through beagle field trials, both in ARHA and AKC.

If you don't go to trials, you are missing out on a chance to meet the best people in the world.

In fact, that is why I started this post. I am upset because something that I care so much about, and that has given me so much in my life is hurting right now. The reason so many people are critical is because they are so invested in their dogs and ARHA.

Sometimes beagle field trials are a little like Garth Brooks song, The Dance.

No joke! Around here a few guys got the big idea if you don't bark you don't win. Sometimes theyl take bets to see how quick there hound barks after they un snap it. I use to look up to one of em now I'm left scratchen my head.

Human nature being what it is, I'd say not much has changed over the last 25 yrs,...the old crowd is out and the new crowd is in, now the old crowd wants back in.
I've seen it in many organizations from the fire dept., to the union hall.
When I first started going to trials, there were old fat men judging also, but they judged from the front, not from the rear. They were always looking to cut the pack, turn the rabbit, kinda create their own checks that they they were in position for. I didn't doubt their judgement for a minute for they were seasoned and knew their hounds. They might not get it all, but what they got was set up by them and they were there with a marked rabbit and an eye for honest cooperative hound work. In other words, you better shine when you ran into the storm clouds gathered by the judge. jmho

Pretty great story, these days ya better know how to cut em. Or in certain places ur azz is smoked.years ago I do remember pairing with many a different judge in the mines. It was balls against the wall running every round, I used to burn one every now and again and long as I had a sack I could judge. Ask a few of the Older Indiana boys without Ohio and Kentucky judges it was virtually impossible to run a hunt and get it over in 2 days. Last year I judged at the world I realized it was over. Cramps and cigarettes have took it's toll that was 2006.I do believe at 50 and way outta shape I could team up and judge better than some I have seen, may have a heart attack but, judging is thankless whether ya cheat or not. Calling all you see sure keeps the gallery in check, personally best judge I ever seen? Sammy Wells. Scott Music and Greg Wells . Scott could run behind a pack and get more score than many a judge on horseback.
