Chain-Link Kennels

Post by DarrinG »

I see alot of guys utilizing multiple chain-link kennels, connected together, to form several runs side-by-side. I currently have a couple of the 10X10X6 on concrete but would like to have a better setup on my concrete pad. I see alot of pictures of kennels from other guys and their chain-link runs look like they are something like 10 ft long X 4-5 ft wide X maybe 4 ft high....

Where do you guys buy these multiple runs that are connected like that? Do you buy panels and connect them or what?

Thanks in advance. :)

Those are nice but quite expensive! I have not had any bad experiences with chain-link and would not mind using it. Can panels be bought seperate at places like Lowes or Home Depot to create multiple runs?

KENNELS

BOPEYE, I LIVE IN OHIO AND BOUGHT A THREE RUN KENNEL FROM THE OPTIONS PLUS THE KENNEL IS VERY NICE I LIKE IT. I JUST CHANGED MY KENNEL SET-UP THIS PAST SUMMER. I ALWAYS HAD MY DOGS IN ABOVE GROUND KENNELS. I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE ABOVE GROUND SET-UP. I HAD MY KENNELS CUSTOMIZED TO BE 3FT. WIDE IN STEAD OF 5FT. THEY ALSO SHIPPED ME THREE EXTRA 5FT. PANELS. SO IF A PERSON WOULD PURCHASE A GATE THEY COULD HAVE A FOUR RUN KENNEL. I WOULD SELL MY KENNEL FOR 700.00. IF INTERESTED E-MAIL AT CJ_35@OMALP1.OMERESA.NET.

You can also get in touch with a company that installs chain link fence.Give them the measurements you want and they will build to suit your needs.I had this done recently and like it alot.I was able to get the fence lifted off of the floor 2'' so clean up is easy. After putting all sections together i now have 5 runs 5'wide and 14'long.Plenty of room for 10 dogs.

Yes Darin, they are sold by the panel and come in different lengths.Pet Plus and Tractor supply are the places near me that carry them.Wherever you find them should also carry the hardware for them..nuts,bolts,and brackets for joining pannels together.I have seen the shorter stuff but I made mine out of the 6' stuff and that Molly pup I got from James started climbing over the top of it like a monkey..lol..she's a real climber.I modified around the top some and I think I have the problem solved for the time being. Good Luck, CHH

pat, I'm sure gald Molly's sire dont climb! She must have got that from her dam, LOL. I will soon check with Lowes to see if they have the panels seperately. I wonder if they also carry pre-fab doors too? We'll see soon I guess. :)

I'm sure if you find a place that carries the panels, they will also carry the doors which are actually just another panel with the door built right into them. For instance,if you decide you want your kennel 10' wide, they make 10' pannels with the door already in it.I made one that has a 12' panel across the back, with a 10' panel up each side and a 10' er coming up the center. Then I put two 6' door panels across the front and ended up with a double kennel each side being 10' L x 6'W. It also makes it easy to add on or whatever.Glad to hear that Jack is not a climber..lol..Molly is the first one I have ever had. What a PAIN !!! She doesn't just climb the fence, she actually runs up the thing..LOL..I'm gonna have to check a little further back on her. I think there has to be some monkey in her somewhere back there. I'm headed for Indiana this Sunday to pick up another gyp about a month younger than Molly with the same line breeding as her. I hope they make panels that go across the top of those kennels ;) Good luck and good running to ya. Pat

Pat, I'm gonna look into that....I like your idea of buying different size panels and making kind of a "custom" kennel. I would like to re-do my concrete floor kennel runs this spring. I have alot of wasted space on my pad right now. James told me you had bought another female from that line. It sounds like a well bred hound that should make a good one! You're gonna have some dog-power up there! :D

6'X6' panels and gates can be bought at Home Depot. Panels are $35.00, gates are $70.00 Brackets included. They are very nice looking and in my case very efficient, as my whole barn is my kennel. No gate problems or climbing at all. Some type of wire on the ground under them stop the diggers. I decided on my configuration, layed wire on the ground extending about a foot or so on each side of the panel and put about 6" of pea gravel down and set the pens on top. They are 2 years old now and look as good as when I built em. I like the flexability of building any size or shape you want.
