Dog conditioning (Retired or laid-off)?

Post by DDWBeagles »

Anyone retired or laid off that gets to run their dogs 4+ times a week, every week? I've got two decent rabbit dogs, but they haven't been run much in the last year. Once a month has been about average. So, I was tossing around the idea of sending these dogs out to someone who can run them with their pack for a month or two. Of course I would pay for the service. The closer to VA the better, but reasonable driving distance would be OK.

I could also provide the shock collars, tracking system, food, etc.... If anyone is interested either respond here or send a PM. Again, this is not "starting a beagle", both have good hunt and can chase/track rabbits, but they need a major tune-up due to MY neglect. Work, family, life in general always has a way of eating up the hours in a day.

Please only respond if you can realy run them 4+ times a week and provide some form of feedback on their progress. Also, these are expensive dogs, so their health, safety and security are extremely important. I'm looking for someone who runs in the wild, not a conditioning pen. They are not fat, so conditioning is probably not the right word, providing practice in the woods and team work with strange dogs is the real goal here. Thanks in advance. ;)

Give Ray Pryor a call. He runs with an old guy named Mr. Moody. Mr. Moody is retired and runs 6 out of 7 days per week. Tell Ray that I referred you. Both live in Montpiler VA. I would help you out but according to Luther Allen my dogs run a different speed than yours. Ray's number is 804-677-2291. He works

Thanks Nate. I don't know about the speed differences as I've only seen two of your dogs run. Both were copper nose young pups in a starting pen (doing quite well I might add).

Is it Ray or Woody that does the conditioning?

It's Moody, however I don't have a number for him but I'm sure Ray does.

Dave spiceoflife would be a good one if you want to come to Ohio. Roy is in the woods more than at home LOL! He's retired and lives for this stuff. He's been around hounds all his life and will give you an accurate report of how they are doing. THEY WILL GET RAN OFTEN. If he is willing you can't go wrong with him. Hope this helps Dave McVay

Thanks Dave McVay,
You and your family are doing wonders for this sport. I was just browsing your site last night, how tall is Chip? Also, can you PM Roy's number to me? Thanks again and I hope the Holidays treat you and yours well.

Respectfully,
David Williams
