Beagle trialling Politics
Can anyone please explain to me why someone one would ever consider trialling when he's been told nothing but horror stories that you can't win a trial unless you play some ridiculous politic game. I have an awesome female that would be hard to beat but don't want to pay cash to be cheated! What do you gain cheating a trial is nothing sacred anymore? I took on beagling because it was relaxing and fun. What is the world coming to?

According to the divorce rate, and poverty rate among unwed mothers, it apparently was good advice.NorthBranch Rummer wrote:We were told nothing but horror stories about sex as teenagers also. but we tried it anyways didn't we!

Thats cause a decent working man don't mind buying a gently used or new car but stays away from the ragged out lease and rental returns when he decides to buy!Newt wrote:According to the divorce rate, and poverty rate among unwed mothers, it apparently was good advice.NorthBranch Rummer wrote:We were told nothing but horror stories about sex as teenagers also. but we tried it anyways didn't we!

If your dog is that good she'll get her share of wins. You didn't mention which venue you wanted to try: Little Pack, Progressive, AKC, etc. I just enjoy the camaraderie, seeing other dogs run and the competition. My dogs get to run in a variety of habitats. Yesterday we were in porcupine country for the first time. We , well the judge, ran one rabbit for about 35 minutes straight in very thick cover. That rabbit provided 12 checks to the five dogs. Might the judge have missed something? Undoubtedly, but they are only human. Sure, there's "buddy judging" but if your dog has the goods they'll win sooner or later. My dog was 50 points ahead and minused out with six minutes to go. That's the breaks. Quit complaining and go find out for yourself. It's a great time win, lose, or draw. I brought both of my dogs home and didn't have to pull any quills. To me that's a good day. My female placing 7th in her second hunt is icing on the cake.

Your opinion of awesome varies...so does mine.....so does a judges on a specific day.
Best bet, show up, with your dog in shape and see what you got.....dog power is more than "politics"....JMO.

Don't expect to win all the time, but expect to have a good time.

You can not cheat a super nice dog. Most might try to buy her. If that happens then you know she is good. You have to realize bad calls are made some with bad intent some by ignorance.
No offense but most guys just know what they have got when they are running against there own hounds. There is a big difference when a dog is running with dogs as good or possibly better.
Trialing is something you love or you hate........... You have to remember just like any big sporting event. The best person or team does not always win.................

Most "good" dogs do great in a specific format that closely matches their style. "Great" dogs perform well in most formats. Contrary to popular belief, very few great dogs exist. Most champions are just good dogs that fit a format well.
Politics affect our entire lives and field trials are not exempt. If you go to trials expecting to get cheated your better off staying home. If you go to learn something, meet some new beaglers, and have a good time you might like it.
Field trials have become very competetive the past few years and everyone there believes they have the best dog. That being said, most go home from trial believing the judges got it all wrong.

The big problem is guys hear their dog really hammering and think it's doing great. They don't see where the dog is in the pack, who took the check out or who's just barking. I'll never forget the guy who kept saying, "Yup. That's Ol' Blue!" every time the dogs got smokin'. At the end, when the scores were read off, "Ol Blue" had a -10. That guy might have thought the judge screwed him. Never thought everyone elses dog was better.

How do you know she is awesome? How many dogs has she competed against? How many different types of scenting conditions has she competed in? How many different judges have evaluated her? How does she react to mouthy packmates? How does she react to rough, swinging packmates?Lop sided beagler wrote: I have an awesome female that would be hard to beat but don't want to pay cash to be cheated!
These questions and more get answered when you compete at field trials. Being awesome can mean a lot of different things to different people. Before I claimed everyone was a cheater I would try it a few times. If you have an open mind you might have a good time.
