I did not realize that this was going to make such a buzz over a stud add. I am just placing an add about Syris. If you would like to breed to him call or email me and we will make arrangements.

ImageImageWell might as well jump in and spend my two cents on this subject::::I have invested lots of time and money in selecting the females i want to carry on my line of rabbit hounds and if i out cross i want to make sure i am complimenting what i allready have and if i line breed to one of the females i have brought in from other breedings i also want it to be a compliment breeding and paper does not run a rabbit nor does trial or show records impress me enough to breed to a hound i have not seen run in the wild under various conditions and with some of my own hounds from my bloodline and i want to see these hounds more than once and on diffferent days,example:::today-three days from now and maybe a week from than.Yes i know this is a lot and the cost is mostly all on me and only time to the stud owner at his or hers convenience. Now there are exceptions to all situations and ONLY one in this case would be===if a friend that i trust a whole lot has seen and can verify a hound is what i am looking for and explain to me in detail,i may upon this persons reccomendations, attempt a breeding of a particuliar hound.Image

SYRIS

Post by ACOMEAU »

I remember the first issue of the American Beagler ran a story on Syris and Rick From NY. The story detailed how some dogs can do it in the field, in the fence, and on the bench. NY throws some harsh wintry conditions sometimes and my only question would be about that. How does he and his off spring run in bad conditions? Below zero, old snow, crust ect.. What are the worst conditions you have seen him run in and at what point is it too much. Not questioning the dog and by all means do not be offended, he has earned his titles and you do not have to answer me. I do not have dogs that can run well below zero or crust, but that is what I am looking for so thats why I asked. I realize there is a point for all dogs when they just cant keep the game up.

For the best answer...you would be best to email his owner Rick Giermata...his email is rjgwoof@aol.com I ran him Monday when it was 2 above, crusty snow and wind was blowing about 20mph. He ran just like he was on dry ground. One thing I was impressed with was his ability to gear down and walk it out if he has too. I also watched him mash his nose in the track, take his foot and scrape the snow down to the ground and smell the ground to check out the scent. Email Rick and he can tell you of worse conditions.

I guess everyone has their opinion on the situtation, but in my opinion Syris has nothing to prove to anyone. Ninety percent of you that are criticizing his owner and agent for not packing him for you, would give your left nad to own a dog like this. Indeed trial records ain't everything, but when you take into consideration where it was done you gotta give the dog credit. Being able to not only place, but win as well in three different registries under four different formats is pretty darn admirable to me. Fact is if I owned the dog, you'd run your female for me before I chose to give you the privelege to breed to him. It should be a privelege for bitch owners to breed to a dog like this. Instead many of you act the other way around.

As for what conditions this hound can and can't run in. I was priveleged to watch this fine hound run in the trial which his owner chose to be his going out party. In September 2002 in 95 degree weather in Southern West Virginia I saw this hound lock onto a cottontail on sandy ground and run it like he was attached to his ass. Can you say NOSE? If not then you ass needs to call someone!

I'm not here to convince you to breed to Syris, that's your choice. I don't own the dog nor have I any stakes in whether you breed to him or not, but to ignore what this hound has done and what he can do for a breeding program is to admit how ignorant some of the critics in this thread actually are. If you don't have enough knowledge of hounds to be able to watch him solo and then be able to compare them to your own hound nor be able to evaluate if they compliment your bitch or not, then obviously you know very little about hounds in the first place.

If it sounds like I'm pissed then by all means believe it. It's funny that several guys come on here and advertise their studs, practically crammed them done our throats every chance they get. But none of you critics have once criticized their hounds. Why is that? Don't even bother answering, because it's pretty apparent many of you are green with envy and jealousy. Good day and God riddins!

I gotta ditto most of that, but the biggest test of value is the many, many cottontails and hare that have been killed in front of this hound. I bet a fleet of pickups couldn't hold them all.

I don't want to speak for Rick, but I've gotten to know him pretty well since Sy was on the first cover of TAB and the one thing he is MOST proud of is the way Sy has performed under the gun - anytime and anywhere. I have umpteen pictures of Sy in the field with Woofy after a hunt, but very few of Sy from a trial. Maybe one or two.

I would recommend this hound (and have) to anyone who wants to put a good gunning hound into their bloodline. He's as valuable to the hunter as he is to the trialer. The gravy? You don't have to sacrifice conformation to get his abilities.

Fuzz,
I don't know Syris from siren and nor does it matter a whole heck of alot to me. Life goes on for me and mine with or without knowing him. Usually I try to steer clear of these hot topics cause I'm a peace loving sort. But, (here it goes) you have to understand that while people can get goofy with their strange demands, there is a reason why they do. In this case it is clearly understood that there is a cloud hanging over many champions because of the stories of "shinanagins" that goes into the making of a champion. While these stories are in my opinion grossly overstated, anyone who has been involved in trialing or clubs at all know there is enough of it to raise suspicion in some folks. It is unfair to the hounds who truely are credit to the beagle world and those wo have worked so hard to get them where they are. But thems the breaks I guess! I don't get into the old Kennel Ration commercial mentality of "my dogs better than your dog"(have to be old to remember this one) but I have an LPRCh male that is mostly a kick ass gun dog. He has produced pups that have gone on to become ARHA rabbit champions as well as some darn fine gundogs for my buddies that will never see a trial. And while I would invite anyone to go out and run with me at any time in any weather it sure wouldn't be to prove anything to anyone. But I wouldn't get mad for them asking because like I said we've all heard the stories. Besides people ask me goofy things every day. Heck I had two today. Wife asked me to go see the inlaws this weekend and boss asked me to work OT Saturday instead of going running! See what I mean? You got to remember while Syris may be the next best thing to radar and may be able to run a hare on a thawed out lake but in the end he is still getting paid to do his thing. Or, at least someone is getting paid I would guess. And he may be worth every penny. But people are reluctant to toss money around unless they think they are getting what they are paying for. And they will go to some far out extremes to reach that goal even if they end up looking silly. They will unwittingly offend some people at times. Just one other thought before I call it a night. A person may be fortunate to find a hound that can do it all and hounds of this caliber are not a dime a dozen to be sure. But unless the owner of a stud dog is handing out the services for free it is not a priveledge. It is a bought and paid for service! I have to tell you I also have a couple females that I'm pretty high on and would toss down with anyone elses and not be shamed. ;) I only breed them to my male. But if I were to offer to pay a stud fee and the stud owner told me he had to see if she were worthy I would laugh in his face. If a hound were that good I don't think I would lower him to ever breed anything. Heck I would put him on a throne and go out kill rabbits and lay them at his feet. Don't get angry with people Fuzz, life is to short and I'm sure they mean no disrespect. Like I said, I do not know the hound but I bet he is a good one. After all a hound could not possibly win in so many arenas without
being the real deal!
Peace,

Ky Beagles, thank you for your response, it sounds like he is a fine hound. I do not have Bitches right now that I think are that caliber to breed to. If someone else is making a good cross I might be interested.

Fuzz, "Don't even bother answering" are you kidding, throw a hay maker and expect me to sit down! I asked a simple question, one that is extremely important to me. Only a fool would breed to a dog he/she has never seen run, or at least got several opinions from people he trust. Different strokes for different folks, I happen to be very critical about owning certain types of dogs, as most beaglers are, so dont chastise me for asking a question. I thought I was very considerate and respectful towards the gentlemen running the add. I have read everyone of Rick Germenta's (sp) articals and have a heartfelt respect for him as a beagler and a writer.

"As for what conditions this hound can and can't run in. I was priveleged to watch this fine hound run in the trial which his owner chose to be his going out party. In September 2002 in 95 degree weather in Southern West Virginia I saw this hound lock onto a cottontail on sandy ground and run it like he was attached to his ass".

That was what I was looking for from anyone who had seen him run and thats where it should have ended!

" Can you say NOSE? If not then you ass needs to call someone! "

I have never disrespected anyone on this board so dont disrespect me like I am a fool. The only ass around here needs a boot in it!

I don't care who the dog is out of or who owns it, I ask the same question everytime I look at one, or respond to an add. You can ask anyone on this board whom I have ever spoke with and they will tell you that I am very specific about NOSE!

"if it sounds like I am pissed believe it"

Are we all supposed to be afraid now?

Ky Beagles, I am truly sorry this post turned out this way and I meant no disrespect to you or Rick. I would surely tie either of those hounds in my back yard.

Bev, I appologize also for mudding up this post, be easy on me.

Hillbilly, you right a lot of people are skeptical because of "shenanagins" and a lot of people come on these boards to start trouble. Not to say that's the intentions of those critics that have come on here in this thread. It's just I can't see why they all got all excited about the way one owner does his business, while ignoring every other so far. From that alone I see a little envy and jealousy. Maybe I'm wrong and if so I'm man enough to admit it. But fact is the majority of guys that talk about these shenanagins never trial or only make judgements from running in one or two. In other words, they go to one trial time don't place and they're being cheated the rest of their lifes. I'm not saying shenanagins don't go on, to say so would be dumb, but on the other hand people shouldn't be automatically skeptical just because a dog is a trial dog. Sure there's several FC out there that don't know their ass from their head, but as you yourself admitted to... in this hound's case you don't accomplish what he has by being a product of shenanagins. I'm not angry with people in general, I'm just angry at their ignorance and skepticism. To me if an owner allows you to watch them run solo then he has nothing to hide and once again I stand by the comment I made previous about being able to watch a dog run solo and seeing how they measure up.

As for laughing in someone's face if they asked you to watch your female before they let you breed to their male. That's your choice, but if what you got in your backyard suits you then why would you be going elsewhere anyhow. I've come to realize the same and the majority of the breedings I intend to make in the near future is to that of a hound my cousin owns. Dog doesn't have any title nor will he ever, but what he's throwing on the ground sure suits me a lot better than many of the field champion offspring I've had and seen. As for what Syris' is going to throw, that I don't know, nor have I seen. But when I do get to see some of those pups of his... I can tell you this, if they suit me then I very well may breed him to. If Ricky asked me to watch my female run, I wouldn't have any trouble doing so. Way I look at it is the following. What's any difference in us asking them to see their male run? Sure you're paying them money, but they're taking a chance on breeding to our females. In light of saying that, let me pose this question to you. Whose the first dog that gets blamed when a breeding doesn't work out? The sire and the sire only is blamed 99.9 percent of the time. I have no males that I offer at stud, but if I did then you'd run your female for me if you wanted to breed to him. You or anyone else can laugh all the want, but if you want what I've got you're going to play by my rules, else haul your butt back where you came from. I would care less whether you breed to my stud or not, but if you do I wanna make darn sure what you're going to get is going to suit you. What I'm saying is this by running your female for me allows me to perhaps help you determine whether my male would give you what you want. That's not to say I don't think the bitch owner would know what he wanted, but instead it would at least allow me to give my two cents of whether I thought my male would allow him to accomplish what he wanted or not. Wouldn't you think two heads making a decision whether a cross would work or not would be better than one? I'm not in this game to make money nor will I ever, but if I ever get a stud that I wish to offer to the public I'm not going to subject him to a subpar female and allow him to take all the blame for it when the breeding doesn't work out.

Oh and about the wife wanting you to go see the inlaws or the boss wanting you to work OT... Play sick brotha, play sick... Take care... :)

I am going to try and answer 3 post in one shot, so here goes. Amcomeau, I will be breeding my Superdog bitch to Syris this sping and I am putting people on a list now as I have several people interested. If you would like to know more about her email me and I will send you my number and you can call me. To Litte Dog, Syris is a superb jump dog and does it right. A hound that hunts as hard as he does is going to be a good jump dog. My bitch that I am breeding to him is an excellent jump dog also, so I have high hopes for this cross. Beagle Bill, Little Sy or aka Rheamue's Blue Syris is out of a bitch that has 1 win in trials. Rick is going to be trialing her pretty regularly this year. She is out of Maravic's Blue Barry x Mountians Shadow's Misty, which goes back to Doogie Bauser and a Mr. T bitch. This was such a successful cross that Rick made it again in October and I got a male pup out of it. I have the same high hopes for my pup as Rick has on Little Syris.
