A Funny Thing...........

Took the dogs out running today. Didn't get an early start so it was turning in to a warm day [ mid-70's ] with a touch of early spring humidity.
Josie,Fly and Bomber jumped in some real thick briers and it was off to the races.The way the race progressed I figured it was a breeding buck rabbit as he was going out long and running more like a hare than a cottontail.
The scenting must have been just about perfect as the hounds were running almost without checks as they were keeping the pressure on him.I saw the rabbit half a dozen times as he'd bust out of the cover and run the field edge for a ways before diving back in the briers.This wasn't a sneaking rabbit,he was running for his life.
They kept him circling for an hour when I heard the rabbit squeal and knew they had run him down to the catch.
Normally when my dogs catch a rabbit they will have him pulled apart and be chowing down by the time I can get to them.
Imagine my surprise when I got to them to find all three dogs laying down with their tongues hanging out ,panting hard and the live rabbit laying there in the middle of them doing the same thing !
I picked the rabbit up and with the dogs following me carried him down to the creek and dunked him in the cool water while the dogs submerged themselves to cool off and get a drink.
The dogs went back to hunting and the revived rabbit began to fight and kick in my hands.I found a shady spot and laid him under some bushes and hunted on.
An hour later I passed by the spot and looked and old Buggs was gone !

Mr.SGB did you notice if that Wabbit was a Boy, on the Run like you thought Up Front?
