and who benifits when

Post by jackrabbit »

Those big companies come to Indiana or stay in Indiana. More companies, larger companies equates into more jobs. I just happen to work in a factory. Without the income i get from the job i do there it would be difficult to survive. Thousands of jobs went to southern states under Kernan for just this type of reason. Our state government is changing and becoming more responsive to the needs, desires, and welfare of its citizens. Do you really think Governor Daniels just woke up one morning and decided to jerk your time around. I dont think so. There is good sound finacial reason behind it. But if you want to cut off your nose to spite your face have it......

No Jack, I think it's you who's missing the "nose" for business. Companies want tax breaks/shelters, being catered with cheap loans and bonds to come in house. Again, putting a false face on the real problem, and again, considering the benifit to only small group verses the State as a whole, just like he did with IP&L as a company.

As president of the Alliance I spend more time than I really like in Indianapolis. I am hearing and seeing whats going on. Every branch of our state government is experiancing the dynamic and innovative changes that our IDNR has. Gone is Glen Lange, chief biologist, who for years fought tooth and nail giving us the sporting opportunities we needed and rightfully deserved. Gone is a "popular" DNR director who managed by letting his subordinates call the shots. Gone is the Director of law enforcement that gave an all together new and absurd meaning to the indian saying "speaks with forked tongue". Gone is 10 other high ranking DNR executives, And gone or disappearing fast is the IDNR attitude of "take it our way or dont get it at all". Governor Daniels ran and won the election on a platform of changing our government so that it becomes more responsive to its citizens, and the appointments he is making are coming from outside the current government divisions. Fresh ideas with a mandate from their Boss to listen and make changes based on what we are telling them. I just happen to be extemely excited about the new atmosphere that is permiating in and around our statehouse and government offices today. Again, give our new governor the time and opportunity needed to make those agressive and innovative reforms we have needed and demanded for years only to have our former state government leaders thumb their noses at us. Get involved now, make suggestions, give ideas, show moral support, and make the calls to help this chapter in Indiana history to continue to be remembered as the era of both social and economic revitaliztion. The Indiana Beaglers Alliance message board at http://www.indianabeaglersalliance.org has several threads dedicated to the infomation it is recieving about the progressive changes Governor Daniels is making. Should you be interested take a stroll over there and check em out.

thanks

here is just a few examples of the many issues our Governor is tackling that can be found on the http://www.indianabeaglersalliance.org message board under the NEWS FROM THE STATEHOUSE section.

Strengthening Indiana’s Economy for all Hoosiers

TODAY’S ACTION: Governor Mitch Daniels signed into law the Shovel Ready Development Act and the Right to Farm Act to encourage job creation throughout Indiana.

ü The Shovel Ready Development Act (HEA 1653) assists local communities to pre-permit and prepare properties for development prior to sale.

Ø Properties that have gone through pre-permitting can be developed much faster, which makes them more attractive to potential investors and encourages job growth.

Ø Governor Daniels believes Indiana has lost job creation opportunities to other states that allow communities to make properties shovel ready.

ü The Right to Farm Act (SEA 67) allows farmers to update their operations and technology near new developments.

Ø In many cases, farmers find themselves being sued by their new neighbors even though they have lived there much longer.

Ø Governor Daniels considers agriculture a key component to Indiana’s economic comeback.

These bill signings are the latest actions that Governor Daniels has taken to strengthen Indiana’s economy to raise Hoosiers’ income and reshape the state’s business climate to create jobs.

ü Governor Daniels signed the bill to create the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to place the state’s economic development efforts into the hands of some of the most capable business leaders in Indiana and create a flexible organization that can move at the speed of business.

ü Governor Daniels signed into law a bill requiring the use of biofuel technology in state vehicles when possible. Indiana is poised to be a national leader in the production and development of biofuels such as: biodiesel and ethanol. This bill and the Governor’s Clean Energy Initiative will enhance Indiana’s role in this industry and encourage future expansion and job creation in this high-tech field.

ü Governor Daniels signed an Executive Order on his first day in office recognizing the Minority Business Enterprise certification from the Indiana Regional Minority Suppliers Development Council freeing many minority owned small businesses to expand and do more business with the state.

ü Governor Daniels and the General Assembly are working to pass an aggressive package to increase business investment and growth, assist small businesses, promote Indiana has a prime location for research and development, and encourage job growth.

our Governor's first 100 days.....

Post by jackrabbit »

The First 100 Days

The focus of Governor Daniels’ first 100 days has been on strengthening Indiana’s economy, reforming state government, restoring Hoosiers’ trust in government, and balancing the budget now.

The Governor and the General Assembly are working to strengthen Indiana’s economy in order to raise Hoosiers’ income and reshape the state’s business climate to create jobs.

ü In the first month, Gov. Daniels signed the bill to create the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to place the state’s economic development efforts into the hands of some of the most capable business leaders in Indiana and create a flexible organization that can move at the speed of business.

ü Gov. Daniels signed an Executive Order recognizing the Minority Business Enterprise certification from the Indiana Regional Minority Suppliers Development Council, freeing many minority-owned small businesses to expand and do more business with the state.

ü The General Assembly is working to pass the Governor’s package to increase business investment and growth, assist small businesses, and encourage job growth.

The Governor is working to improve service and eliminate wasteful spending by reforming state government.

ü Gov. Daniels acted on his second day in office to protect Hoosier children by creating a free standing cabinet level Department of Child Services.

ü Gov. Daniels is helping low-income Hoosiers and seniors gain access to the discount drug programs already available to them. Over 37,000 Hoosiers have initially qualified to receive discounted or free prescription medications through Rx for Indiana. Remarkably, two out of every three Hoosiers that register through the website or on the phone qualify for reduced-cost or free prescription drugs.

ü The Daniels Administration has identified tens of millions of dollars in savings by taking actions such as: disposing of excess vehicles, closing 6 regional Commerce offices, and consolidating efforts in the new Office of Technology.

ü The Daniels Administration immediately acted to reduce the size of middle management by eliminating more than 40 positions at an annual savings in excess of $2.4 million.

ü Governor Daniels’ “new team” stopped bad business practices such as the BMV spending $35,000 a year on bottled water, $170,000 spent to produce two cookbooks at taxpayer expense, and the Dept. of Corrections paying $8.2 million annually to Kentucky to guard Indiana prisoners.

Gov. Daniels is working to restore Hoosiers’ trust in government by raising ethical standards and appointing a watchdog to root out fraud, theft, and corruption in state government.

ü Years of scandal and theft have cost the state over $25 million (that we know of) and eroded the public’s trust in state government.

ü Gov. Daniels appointed former Clay County Prosecutor Dave Thomas as the state’s first Inspector General. The IG’s office has already fielded hundreds of tips, launched 20 formal investigations and, just last week, worked with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to file its first formal criminal charges in an alleged bribery case.

ü The Governor signed an Executive Order on his first day in office prohibiting gifts to state employees and closing the revolving door of state employees who leave government only to return the next day to lobby their old agency and exert influence.

Governor Daniels is working to honestly balance the state’s budget now.

ü During his second week in office, Gov. Daniels outlined a plan to honestly balance the state’s budget now and rebuild the state’s dwindling reserves. The Governor is calling upon lawmakers to balance the budget now without accounting tricks and gimmicks.

ü Hoosiers across the state support the Governor’s plan to balance the budget now (73%-19%) and realize that Indiana cannot address its fiscal ruin until the state stops spending more than it receives and playing a shell game with state funds to feign a balanced budget.

Governor Daniels continues meeting with Hoosiers across the state to discuss his agenda and listen to their concerns.

ü Gov. Daniels has conducted town hall meetings in many parts of the state. These meetings with Hoosiers and business and community leaders allow the Governor discuss his agenda and listen to the concerns of citizens across the state.

ü So far, the Governor has held town hall meetings in Auburn, Terre Haute, Delphi, Crown Point, Madison, Frankfort, and Washington.

New laws passed by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Daniels

HEA 1003 – Indiana Economic Development Corporation

The IEDC is a business focused organization solely dedicated to creating new jobs, raising Hoosiers’ incomes, and securing new economic opportunities for Hoosiers.

HEA 1032 – Indiana Biofuel Promotion Act

The Biofuel Promotion Act promotes job creation in this high-tech bioscience field by requiring state government to fuel its vehicles with agriculture-based fuels, such as biodiesel, ethanol, or gasohol, whenever possible.

HEA 1653 – Shovel Ready Development Act

This act assists local communities to prepermit and prepare properties for development prior to sale. This act allows communities to market properties that are shovel ready for development which increases their marketability and enhances the state’s job creation efforts.

SEA 484 - State police officer survivor health benefit

Requires the state police to offer to provide and pay for health coverage equal to health coverage offered to active state police officers for the surviving spouse and dependent children of certain state police officers who die in the line of duty.

SEA 56 - Establishes the Department of Homeland Security.

This bill increases government efficiency and improves communication by merging the duties of the state emergency management agency, the fire and building services department, the public safety and training board, the advanced life support subcommittee, and the public safety institute into the new Department of Homeland Security.

SEA 267 – Right to Farm Act

This act allows farmers to update their operations and technology near new developments. In many cases, farmers find themselves being sued by their new neighbors even though they have lived there much longer
