 This is news to me! I had no idea you needed a license to run dogs. I've said it before and I'll say it again.....thank God I bought my lifetime hunting license when they were $525 dollars! I think they run around 800 bucks now, and if I hadn't already bought one, I'd still buy it at that price. Sure is nice to go hunting and not have to worry about hunting license, deer tags, ect. ;) Brian

When I was coon trailing I always bought a license to run during the summer months as there was always a specific running SEASON. I guess I never really thought about it with the beagles as there was never any specific running season in the laws so I never purchased a license until the fall. If this is the case I'm sure glad I never got stopped. I do know that last summer a CO went by real slow two seperate times when my cousin and I were running. We were on privately leased property so maybe he couldn't have ticketed us anyway but I'm not going to take any chances.

brian,,,,,,there are alot of laws they are trying to change,,,,,,,for instant, they are trying to do away with lifetime licenes, and they are going to pass a regulation that all people over 65 has to start buying a licenes,,its all in the states hands as they think they are not making enuf money,,but what do they do with the money, buy new boats, trucks, they sure dont use it to manage wildlife thats for sure,,,,before long there will be a big drop in licenes sales and a big jump on poacher numbers,,,,,mark my word,,,,,,

My dad got a ticket 30 yrs ago for running without a license. This was on private property. They will ticket you now for the same thing. I buy my new license right after the old ones expire.

Seems that you have to have a license just to run dogs in most states. It's the same way here in NC. Even at our sanctioned field trials, out-of-staters still have to have a valid hunting license from their home state, and under a licensed field trial, our state will recognize their state's license. I think I got that right, LOL.

It stinks that when I go to just visit friends in TN or GA or KY and to just run dogs with them for a day, I have to have a out-of-state small game hunting license from that state. Thats bull. Not long ago I had to pay 36 bucks I believe just to run dogs for a day with some buddies in TN.

Lonewolf, thanks for your reply. I have a question about the comment you made about "doing away with lifetime licenses". Are they proposing to stop selling them only, or are they proposing to stop selling them and revoking the ones they have already sold? I would sure HATE to lose my lifetime license. It's one of the best investments I've ever made LOL. I also agree with you about the poaching thing. When they raised licenses fees (from 13.75 to I think 24.00) for deer, I told all my friends two things....one, if they didn't have their lifetime licenses, buy them. Two, it's going to put everyone in more danger in the woods. I personally know of a bunch of folks who aren't "rich", and the cost of the deer tags is becoming a hardship for them. Around my neck of the woods, they are just a bunch of "good ole boys" who see those tags as a pain anyway, and now that they are that expensive, well, you know what's going on. More people than ever are poaching...hunting without tags, licenses, ect.
Sooo, that means more people are in the woods with guns breaking the law. I personally feel this raises the prospect of "bad" things happening because these folks are already breaking the law. If I was a conservation officer, I would hate to see fees raise, because that only means that more of the folks I encounter in the field will be breaking the law, and increases the chance of a bad encounter. This of course is just my opinion.

LICENSE

Post by MIKE »

BRIAN, IT MAY BE JUST YOUR OPINION BUT I AGREE. IF A CO RUNS INTO A POACHER IT COULD TURN BAD REAL QUICK. A CO TOLD ME I NEEDED A LICENSE TO HUNT ON MY SONS PROPERTY AND I LIVE WITH HIM. I CALLED THE IDNR AND THEY SAID JUST CHECK IT IN UNDER A LANDOWNER/ TENTANT TAG. WE KILLED 4 HERE LAST YEAR & DID THAT.
SO YOUR CO AREN'T AS IMFORMED AS THEY NEED TO BE.

brian,,,,,i do also agree, there are a lot of young hunters out there today and a good possability of someone getting shot,,,,,im not into rabbit hunting or deer hunting for the sport im into it because my boys enjoy it and i feel if i can keep thier minds on hunting it keeps them out of the bad stuff thats on the streets today,,,,and as for your question about the lifetime licenes i was told they are going to stop selling them but honor the ones all ready sold but just take this with a grain of salt you know how hunting laws get blowed out of proportion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
