Back in the day that I used to live in the great north (Wis), we asked the game warden about hunting with dogs when the season was closed to the use of dogs (probably for nesting birds...) You are allowed to take snowshoe year round in Wis., and we could always use the excuse that we were hunting snowshoe. The game warden (now retired) said that if all you were hunting was rabbits, he wasn't going to bother us as long as we carried a valid license.

Need a license

I think I talked about running or not instead of having a license in my previous reply. In Vt we need a license to run anything with dogs, including hare, because they belong to the state and if you persue state game with a hound, you need a license, including in a fenced area owned by a beagle club, they are still state owned hare.

I'm not sure in Pa. about having your hunting lic. with you but if you get a dog training permit you can carry a gun in the off season.
