WARNING FLYSTRIPS

This is a follow up to an earlier post I made about loseing a pup. I questioned if it could be Parvo and also if Flystrips could do it 2 days after the first pup died a second pup started to show the same symptoms. I took it straight to the vet and it died about an hour after getting him there. It did not have Parvo or any other deseise. I didnt want to pay for an authopsy but I ask him if the flystrips could be the cause and he said definetly. There hasnt been any dogs in the kennel since this happened so today when I went in to clean it all out and get ready to use it again I found the card board bottom roll from 2 flystrips in the dog house. This was some nasty stuff folks, perfectly health pups one day the next day a little hunch in the back like a stomach problem(in hind site) the next day DEAD They had a little blood in the stool the first day but I thought it was probably worms and wormed them, darn did I blow that one

Dang Man!! Sorry to hear that!!! They say that we learn From our mistakes And some lessons are harder than others, But this type are the WORSE..
All that we can do is hope that By Sharing others can learn And you may have just saved someone Elses pups along the Way.
I feel For you. and am truely sorry for your loss.....

I had to learn about cedar bedding. It smells good but thats about it. I have three pups kenneled together, but only one had an allergic reaction after a month of using it. He was sneezing and dripping blood from his nose, I took him to the vet, they gave him some meds. They told me to take the cedar out. Fortunally he's fine now but I almost had to learn the hardway too! Sorry to hear about your pups.

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about your pups. And to say thanks for this post. It will probably save someone else for experiencing the same misfortune. I have used fly sprips in the past and never thought anything like this would happen. I definitely won't use them anymore. Thanks again.

That is a tough break but maybe by sharing we can all prevent such a tragedy. Three years ago I was trimming some barberry bushes around the front porch, a 4 month old female pup I had was playing in the yard & would run in & grap a limb of the bush as I cut them & run off with it only to lay around & chew on it. I didn't think anything of it at the time. The next evening when I fed she was throwing up & wouldn't eat. I took her straight in to my vet & no illness showed or worms on any test. She died that night, I called the vet to let him know she died & was saying to him how she was playing one day & dead the next, as I told my story to him he figured it out. According to him many shrubs or hedges are poisonous & that had to be what killed her. Who would have thunk it!

Are you saying that the fly strips fell down and the pups chewed them or does the presence of the fly strip in the kennel pose a danger?
