A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I think my dog has a tick attached to the inside of her ear. I've never seen a tick that was all filled up with blood before, but whatever this is, it wasn't there yesterday. It is not quite half the size of a pencil eraser. Dark purple/gray color. I can see a tiny bit of blood around it where it meets the skin.
1. Is this a tick? Whatever it is...it certainly isn't normal.
2. If it is a tick (or some other creature) how do I get it off without hurting the dog?
put some alcohol on a q-tip put it on the attached part the head of tick then work him loose do not bust head in dog . may take awhile to get him to let loose if you have some hemo stats pull tight to the head
I would get it off fast and not worry about it. But if I was fearful of causeing probelms , I would spray with WD-40 and the tick will back out. Why does this work , insects do not have lungs. They get air thru their adioman- belly- the oil plugs and stops them getting air.
After you remove the tick try using bio spot on your dogs I use it on my dogs ever month and haven't seen any ticks or fleas. You can get it at TSC at an affordable price.
