i will leave my say out of this cause this was an actual case i was involved in.5 dogs in CAST 1 dog opens 5 or 6 times gets on clock all dogs hark to it nothing is produced in a minute or too all dog stay with dog on clcok as it comtinues to bark some over same area 1 dog leaves the pack about 35 yards i'd say opens anmd blaSTS out for 40 yards by itself barking nonstop.. how do u score that!scenario #1
#2 scenting is bad its hot dry humid...dogs gets a rabbit goin they run it in short spurts 10-30 ft most times the dogs all chase the bunny in the weeds all handlers seen it ,when judge runs up there he looks in weeds bunny hops around judge that never sees the rabbit ,,1 dog comes out where rabbit did opens but not loudly 3 or 4 times while walking the line the rabbit was on again all handlers seen the rabbit do this judge didnt ,, handlers tell judge thats where the rabbit went the distance is about 25-30 ft maybe how do u score this ??i leave my opinons out since i was in this cast but i left it one mad puppy and lost respect for a supposed judge!

#1 What happened at the end of 40 yards? if nothing then I would minus the dog on the clock for not showing me a line or some evidence of a rabbit! #2 Strike on the dog on the clock and thats it!

after 40 they all got together and ran for another 25 yards or so, then started hitting.,in spurts again . one thing to be considered scenting was real bad had to be its was too hot to be there for one thing and very dry .

On scenario number 1 I am assuming that the dog that was on the clock pulled to the dog that lined it out, as well as the rest of the pack. If that is the case then I say Positive Strike on the first dog that opened and a Jump on the dog that lined out since he was all by himself, but in the same vicinity as the dog that was on the clock. Now if the dog on the clock did not pull then I would have to stay with that dog until the end of the 3 minutes and give him a minus.

On Scenario number 2. I am assuming the dogs were pecking the check along due to bad scenting conditions. The subject of "forward progress" is subjective but I judge forward progress based on the scenting conditions. If scenting is bad and a dog walks a track or picks it then I will give checks a little more liberal. If scenting is good, then I look for a dog to grab it and go. It doesn't matter how fast he goes with it, just that he is making forward progress and not standing in one spot blowing a hole in the ground. In your case if the dog walked it out and pecked it along showing the rest of the pack where it was at, and then the pack got together and went out, I would score a check on the dog that did the hard work of showing the rest of the dogs where the rabbit went.

That's why I say AKC has the "best idea" when it comes to judging....they dont have to go on a points system, the judge can bring back the best dog that day without having to worry about the points matter. However, where I feel ARHA is better is there dont seem to be near as much "holier than thou" attitudes and the like as what I've seen in the limited AKC trials I've been to.

I wish there was a way in ARHA that the judge could just bring back the best dog down in that cast.....Dont take me wrong, often the best dog down does have the highest points, but I think we have all seen casts where a mediocre dog wins the cast but didnt do most of the work on the rabbits.
