Post by high ridge joe »

i have a 6 yr old male..after running i noticed a small cut from a thorn on the top of his muzzle..i cleaned it and put some ointment on it...after a while a week or 2 the cut is gone but now he has lost hair on the top of his muzzle and the skin has turned black...is this a fungus? any suggestions

If it is just along the cut, I would think the black skin to be a scar from the cut. Also true for the loss of hair. If it is only along the cut line, that would be normal as well. Maybe the hair loss is along the area where you put the ointment. Other than that, I would just continue to watch it and if things get worse, then go and have it checked out.

Good Luck,

If you're worried about it being a topical fungus, you could buy some Lotrimin at the drug-store and see if that helps at all.

The black-skin sounds peculiar. Tough to say anything without seeing it first-hand. Based on what you've said, if that were my dog, I'd have a vet look at it to make sure there's not some sort of infection that needs attention.
