Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
10 dogs, one pack?
I know this isn't what your lookin for...
I want to see 10 dogs that are all close in speed and running style. Better if they are all closely related. They need to pack up good together, they need to know each other and how the other ones operate (spot barks too much in the check so we don't pay him no mind, but if sparky opens we get to him quick). They need to be dead broke, quit and come in when called, and follow me without a lead when I tell them to. Don't know if they make a ten dog shocking system, and even if they did I couldn't remember who's wearing what color.
I DON'T want to see a bunch of dogs fighting for the lead, over running the line, running ten different rabbits at once, chasing deer, chasing each other, heading off into the next section...
Running a pack is hard work if you don't have the right kind of dogs. It is hound hunting at it's best if you do have the right dogs

42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

riverbottem hit it right on the nose, alot of these dogs would fight for the front, would'nt pack to good. but if that is the style of running you like, then you got alot of the right ones.

I'm on board with RiverBottom

Dogs that work together, styles complimenting each other....... a pack that can run or walk (if they have to) a hare to the gun in the very worst winter has to offer but still tear it up when the conditions & terrain are ideal.
I've never seen ANY of the dogs most here have listed so this is as good an answer as I can come up with

i'll reply again, up here in mi when you run on snow you got to gear down like norwester1 said and i've seen a few of these dogs run and some can gear down and some can't, i've been to alot of field trials and seen very few winners pack run well, get mad or not but it is true. alot of dogs do not pack well.
Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
Is adaptability a trait that hunters and trialers look for? 10 dogs does take the right ten. I personally love a pack in unison, not a
one or two dog show.JMO. We will run 8 tomorrow and they can do apretty good job at times of running one like a clock ticking.
One gets a check then another. It is fun to hear it this way!

Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
going hunting tomorrow with 4 dogs. I got my good lead dog which will retrieve rabbits for me. I got one good check dog and one good jump dog and a 7 month old pup in the mix. Each dog has its strengths and weaknesses. Each dog can jump their own rabbit and each dog can lead at times but one is better than the other at a certain something which is why I stated I have one lead dog one check dog and one jump dog. Bet I can kill more rabbits than all your 10 top dogs put together over my poo eaters. I prove it time and time again every week and I don't see much of any others posting their hunting pics. So stick that in your pipe and smoke on it a bit.
in other words yeah they all have to be able to work together. thats all I"m trying to say.

Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
I'm in agreement with a few of the previous comments. While most of the dogs are good hounds in most eyes, whether they'd jell in a pack of 10 together or not... well
Unfortunately gotta pass on hunting tomorrow, a friend is getting married. However Joey I think a lot of guys don't post their pictures for the simple fact they're too busy shooting their guns rather than the camera :-), but we all appreciate your enthusiasm along with your pics and videos. Here's a pic of mine from a couple years ago when I did happen to bring a camera with us.

The picture contains 3 litter mates with rest being pups out of those three litter mates. The one licking her lips is the dog in my avatar. My thoughts were the same as hers, haha. The red male leaping and the bluetick on the far right were 15" hounds, rest were 13". However the 15" would gear down and run with 13" without craziness occurring.
Anyhow as to answer the question below is my pack of 10... The first 8 were hunted together in a pack of 12 along with a grade male, Peanut... FWR Satterley Little Polly, Stonyhills Candy, and Candy's pup Fuzz's Queen Of Heart's. The last two are 1/2 sisters out of Smoke, which weren't born at the time. The day the twelve were hunted together, early that morning we'd hunted 6 until lunch, then turned the other 6 out after lunch. 6 is our preference as max per pack. Nevertheless the four or five of us that were hunting had each killed a few a piece, thus we decided to move on up the hollow where we were hunting. When we started to get the last 6 out of the truck again, all 12 hounds bounded out. At first we started to collect six of them, then said what the hell let them run. Honestly I expected chaos with 12 hounds on the ground, needless to say we all were surprised, the dogs each seem to know their spot. For the next couple hours they pounded and we killed a few more rabbits. Below are my 10 if shoulda, coulda, wouldas were available.
Northridge Misy Blue - dam
Wooden Shoes Fritz - sire
FC Blazing Trails Blue Diamond - litter mate
Blazing Trails Blue Smoke - litter mate
Blazing Trails Blue Angel - litter mate
Blazing Trails Dolly - litter mate
Blazing Trails Trixie II - litter mate
Mays Ginger - litter mate
FC Fuzz's Blue Light Special - pup of Smoke
FC Blazing Trails Red Rose - pup of Smoke

Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
I personally love a large pack, but a lot goes into how that day goes. Handling, junk running(0 tolerance!!), working together. Then sit back and enjoy.
One day last year we had 12 on the ground and ran 14 rabbits and they ran that day! Big ole circles with dogs gettin after it! It is a lot of fun. Fuzz, nice looking

Re: 10 dogs, 1 pack. who do you want to see.
Im with a lot of the others I watched and judged some amazing and big name dogs at a big trial not to long ago and all the dogs were everything that you hear a grrch should be but it seemed like that was the roughest running casts to watch because there all that good of dog there is no order...Some of the smoothest running packs ive seen are the guys that have raised the dogs in there pack since they were pups or younger atleast and he can tell you exactly how each one of his dogs is gonna act and what they contribute when the race is one he knows how there gonna fall in and he trust them...I would love to see a lot of the big named dogs run in one pack but i think it would be to chaotic because there not used to each other and all used to being in charge...
