Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
I'd give it a try if their was a club near this area.
I use to bracket race for money at the local track. Its no different. You pay your entery fee you race if you lose you go home if you can make it some rounds well you have a chance to win. Aint nobody fighting at the race track. It was fun. If only I had a car that wouldn't keep breaking on me I'd been racing again this year.

Good to get everyones opinion, but how many are willing to try it if there is one close just to see if it is as bad as you all think.

Ya i run little pack and like a fast dog that pushes the rabbit to the gun. Aint much on style as long as they get it done. Is the format and rules similar to little pack. If there was a club close of several guys that wanted to start one i would be interested in getting in on it.
Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
Need a dog to get one up and try to run the front with out getting to far off the line, they just score strikes and speed and drives, no checks are scored, I think that is the problem in ukc trying to score checks without seeing whats going on.

But if they miss the line they dont get scored thats why they need to run the line .

Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
If the PKC would make there World Hunt open to all instead of having to run so many little hunts to get money on a dog, the numbers would be up some.
Until PKC gets established better, and numbers come up it is not feasable to do it for most people. So many 4 dog PKC hunts around here it just wouldnt be worth the time, but I would like to hit a big one or two.

We have 6 hunts sceduled starting in July @ the Central Indiana Beagle Club (25 miles west of Indy). We are starting out small having Hunts on Thursday nights. I talked with Tony and haven't told him the outcome yet, but the club is planning on having a Large Added Purse Hunt the end of Oct. We are excited to give them a try.

Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
I have hunted both formats, placed in both with the same dogs and enjoyed both. I personally do not care for the money part but I have found in life that a dishonest person is a dishonest person no matter what is involved. Once you decide to cheat, everything else is jut haggling the price. I do think that PKC is doing something that would help clean up ARHA LP a bit. They score lines which rewards a dog for driving a rabbit with speed. The other thing is more important. When a dog is struck and put on the clock, every other dog that barks 3 times during the 3 minutes is also scored or minused depending on whether the rabbit is moved or not. It is disturbing reading adds that openly say that a dog is not rough enough for LP. I remind all my LP friends of the opening Policy stated in LP rule book: Policy Statement
The Board of Directors of the American Rabbit Hound Association has developed the following policy statement:
"It is our desire that the ARHA can bring a rabbit hound that will be exactly like the type of dog that you would select to take hunting. It is our intention, in interpretation of rules and policies, that all ARHA clubs will conduct competition hunts in a uniform manner. More importantly, competition events will remain a family fun event that is free of dissent and preferential treatment for any person or group."
I don't know about you but I cannot circle and shoot rabbits with dogs so rough that the judges have to call 7 or more timeouts in a 1 hour cast. How many rabbits have you ever circled and shot with dogs that cannot run a rabbit over 5 minutes without throwing it away. Many of the good strike and jump dogs get minused because they cannot produce a rabbit amidst all the backtracking and barking in. In case you think I am talking about anyone else, let me say that my brag dog caused some of the handling at a recent hunt and minused out. In deference to my hunting/trialing friends if I cannot fix the problem she will not be in any trials. I have had a great ime at every hunt I ever attended. I love rabbit hunting, rabbit dogs, and rabbit hunters but I think little pack is getting way to rough for the type of dogs I find a pleasure to hunt. Let me hear from some of you and tell me how dumb I am. Bobby Williams

Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
Bobby, I think you hit the nail right on its head! I run hounds that are upper medium to fast that have line control "AKC Mid-West Gundog". I dont really care if they run the front or the middle as long as they are running the rabbit and not another hound! For the most part, people in my format will not run in NKC or PKC because they dont want their hounds subject to the rough running of the other formats. Now before anybody gets onto me about that statement I am not saying all hounds in NKC are rough but the majority are. If the NKC and PKC would run a cleaner type of trial, I would be at everyone that I could be.

Re: From NKC to PKC Money wise.
i dont want to start a fight but I was just thinking how bout LP pack dogs that score 300+ or 250+ points. WHY? cause there were so many dang breakdowns normally caused by that whicked wild front runner and it comes home winning the round cause it has so many points cause it created those checks then hauled tail when it found the line again getting you guessed it more points. But thats what kind of hound wins LP and not all of them are like that and I"m not knocking them either it is just something i obsevered the last couple LP trials I attened. The dogs that are actually running the line don't get squat! points wise. That is why their are so many different lines of hounds and different Field Trial Formats. I like to try them all to see where my hounds fit in. So far ive watch AKC midwest several LP trails and Now I"m gonna try UKC performance Pack. If if there were a PKC around here I'd go too.

I will stay home and mow grass.I will support Pkc If they get it up and going in the right direction, screw the trophies i need cold hard cash.Good Luck Tony And Swing.Smelling fish yet swing?
