I just can't figure out this puppy color thing. Bred a blue male (sire and dam were blue) to a blue female (sire was tri dam was blue). Ended up with 6 tris and 1 blue. Bred the same female to a tri male (no blues in his pedigree) and ended up with 6 blues and 1 tri. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Lol

Hey Old Boy, it is what it is. Probably something in the water down there. That's as good a guess as anything else I can think of. I'm hoping for all back and tans, probably end up with blues. If I do I'll get them down to you.

In one litter your female’s genes {DNA} dominated the male. In the other breeding the male’s genes dominated your female. More than likely the “dominate” dog in both crosses is more linebred than the other dog it was bred to, or has an "extreme" linebred dog within its pedigree, which make particular traits more passable and more dominate. This also applies to hunting traits and characteristics, but it is much more noticeable, visible and easier to see in the appearance of a dog opposed to characteristics and/or traits.

Nice answer! I agree, this is a good example of the discussion of what studs really throw a lot into there pups. That's the whole idea of linebreeding I believe, to lock in those good traits up close to put into your pups! Great post Brad!

I bred a female out of Junie that is tri-colored blanket back to a blue tick male that is northway/branko bred. I had 3 red/white pups,1 red tick (looked like a English coon hound), 1 blue tick, and one tri-color blanket back with no ticking at all. I know Jewnee's sister was red and the bluetick has thrown lemon pups when bred to a lemon gyp. Wish I would have kept the redtick, heck he wouldn't even entertain the idea of selling her back lol.
