Dogs bleeding
I have been in beagles for 20years and my dogs bleed a lot on the tip of there tail when they run. My friend says that my dogs are just frail. And can't take it. I have had lots of beagles in my life and all have done this. But is he right am I not doing something right in there diet or food I'm buying. Or is it just part of them getting in the brush and getting on a rabbit and their tails go like a whip. Just want to know does any one else have dogs that bleed like this or are my dogs just in bad shape.

Re: Dogs bleeding
Sounds like your friend is trying to get under your skin. Sounds like your dogs hunt hard. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Dogs bleeding
Nothing wrong with your dogs, they just have a lot of tail action.About the only thing I've ever seen that will help with this is put a calf band about a inch below where they keep the hair wore off.I had one if you hunted her 3 or 4 days straight you could see part of her tail bone on the end.She hunted like crazy before but I think she hunted harder and moved through the briars better after I banded her.
Re: Dogs bleeding
Does your buddy have dogs and if so do his dogs not get bloody? If his don't them maybe tell him he needs to find some that work a little harder

Re: Dogs bleeding
Yes he has dogs. He's only been in beagles about 2 months.
Re: Dogs bleeding
My dogs go back on swartz big time. He has mt state blood in his they are only 6 months old. But he has a male that is 1 1/2 old that ain't mt state blood. It has bled some. Guess he thanks mt state dogs don't bleed lol. Guess he will see when he gets them going lol.
Re: Dogs bleeding
My dogs tails bleed in heavy brairs and they are lemon and white. So its looks like they have been shot in the side with all the tail whipping they do. Just spray a little cut and heal on them and there fine in the morning

Re: Dogs bleeding
WVDANIEL, I wouldn't argue with a man who has been in beagles for two months, his knowledge is beginning to sky-rocket, his ability to judge a pack of hounds is blooming at an astounding rate, Breeding Acumen is coming to him so quickly that his mind can hardly contain all of it, ( he will make his first breeding soon) His ability to Diagnose and treat health problems in hounds is rushing so quickly to his brain he is in jeopardy of a dangerous overload! He will consider becoming a licensed judge to " Help" others out. If he is average he will be in this state for about 15 years ,( do not try to convince him of anything in this time period,) at which time his mind will start to go bad and he will get to a point that he does finally learn enough to realize he really doesn't know much, it could get embarrassing! after this he will learn much more slowly , and in a different manner!
Re: Dogs bleeding
Yes I agree with you. We ride to work together. And that's all I hear is how bad my dogs look because they're not Mountain State dogs. And how much better his dogs look because they are. Lol just needed a little encouragement that's all lol.
Re: Dogs bleeding
lol says my dogs are frail. I don't pay much attention to it I just wanted to say if other people had an opinion on dogs tails bleeding that's all

Re: Dogs bleeding
My trial male comes back 90% of the time with a bloody tail and sides. He hunts hard and runs hard. He's minused out twice and come close a few times. Last time it cost him the cast. But I'll take a minus over a zero any day; at least it shows he's working.

Find a new hunting partner.....and ride to work.LOL.
A few of mine don't bleed from there tails too much cause I had to dock them down due to the fact there tail ends looked like a bloody index finger, no hair.....LOL.
