Re: Dogs bleeding
Some dogs tails are what is called a pin tail where the hair is not very course or thick others have a flag tail where the hair is longer then other beagles and others are in be tween a pin and a flag. The pin tail will some times bleed more then other just depends on how much they use thier tail. But not to worry about the blood studys have showen that when then a dog is running out of exsitement that the body makes a chimecal that helps to replace the lose of blood. And that same chemical also cause their desirer to hunt to go up.
Thier are big words for all this; but to put it so the every day guy can understand it. If your dogs tail doesn't bleed that would mean they really are not get the full affect of running. Or shell i say no pain no gain.
Tail bleeding is nothing to worry about they are just wiggelling it more then your buddys dogs
But any way it does not drop thier level of strength and it does not mean yours are better then his.
Just like people dog are different from one to the other some bleed at the tail and some don't. Me i like a bloodyt tail makes me think that my dogs is working harder.

Re: Dogs bleeding
Wv, sounds like your buddy is the one less informed. My hounds come in with bloody tails, sides, ears! I've even seen dogs that have beat there tip of the tail up so bad they've had to be bobbed off on the tip. It has nothing to do with how you feed them or them being frail. Sounds like your how's are working hard in the briar thickets for ya. I believe your buddy is trying make his hounds to be something there not. JMO!

Re: Dogs bleeding
Some dogs don't bleed as bad as others when hunting as long as there's not too much blood it's no big deal...A tri color or a L&W as mentioned will
show more blood than a blue hound... Just like me typing in white here! Then typing in red here!

Re: Dogs bleeding
I have always liked a dog with white in the tip of their tail. And for that reason. It's just me and what I like. Always thought it looked good lol. And I am not in the Brush no where near as much as they are and I bleed almost every time lol

Re: Dogs bleeding
When LPRCh Indian Hills Bobby Megee was 5-6 years old he hunted so hard in the briars where we were running that he wore his tail down to the bone. He bleed one week when we hunted 5 days until he became enemic. We rested him about three days and gave him Vitamin B and blood builder. The next time out he wore the skin off again. We made the mistake of taking him to a Vet to cut his tail. He cut it so far up that he only had about 3 inches of tail left. Don't know what I was thinking. We have banded many hounds and never had a problem. Tell your friend if he hunts his dogs in the thick and they don't bleed a little he needs to look at them real good. Bobby
Re: Dogs bleeding
He said his dogs has a tougher shin. Then my dogs. I know some may have thicker fur. But idk about skin lol
Re: Dogs bleeding
Tuna had his tail docked twice. Had his daughter out Mon. She came in bloody on both sides, probably end up docking hers some time. Like father, like daughter. Lol
Thanks,
Bob

WVDANIEL, He is exactly right, as I mentioned earlier he will be right for at least the next fifteen years. When he says something about hounds if you would just say, " yes I believe you are right " it will cut down on him " spreading" some but not all of his " knowledge on you, if you don't want it, I on the other hand could use it. How about getting him to sign up and get on this board, We could use another knowledgeable hound man on here, some of us are getting to the age we no longer know anything. He would be a prime candidate to help out, if he has only had dogs for a couple of Months , he could start right in the teaching business and like I said ,you can generally get fifteen years out of one , at least before his mind starts to go bad and he can no longer make sense of his own theories ! Get him to sign up I for one could use the help!
Re: Dogs bleeding
Lol yeah he has a lot to learn
