I started mine 5 weeks ago. I only run about 10 hours per week ( do other work at home) . I have a performance hound background, greyhounds etc. Most run their dogs down rather then run em up.

Based on style of Beagle dog will dictate the need for getting in shape. Beagles, not like greyhounds that run wide open like a Thoroughbred horse, run the speed they were bred for and for those that "run" lower speed which are most, they can trail all day without being much in shape if any.
I've seen pregnant beagle dogs out of shape, ready to whelp be hunted all day without quitting.

I heard, one of the most successful men in AKC Midwest, whom has been trialing for decades , say to train only 2 days a week and trial one day per week.
Just what I heard him say.

I trial I don't gun hunt. I use a supplement that I make up and have used for many years. I work the dogs on GPP work at home. And run about 10 hrs per week plus trials in fall-spring.
